Error: Network Connection Timed Out

I am beyond ****** off at the moment. My iTunes was working perfectly until two weeks ago, and now it insists my Network Connection Timed Out when I try to access the store or update podcasts.

It can't be my internet connection, because as you can see, I'm able to access the internet. For some reason it's this specific copy of iTunes (7.5), because the iT7 downstairs works perfectly. Of course, since Apple are so fecking stingy, I can't add a few files from there without wiping everything off my iPod.

So here's the run-down:

I'm using a Dell Inspiron 8600, Windows XP, browsing with Firefox and attempting to load the latest podcasts onto my iPod Shuffle. I don't give a toss about downloading songs, I just want to update my podcasts without having to search the net for the source file.

I ran the Network Diagnostics and it insists the Conneciton to iTunes failed, suggesting I adjust my cable (i don't have one - it's wireless) or flush my dns settings (which i've done several times).

I found a thread on these forums from March and tried every solution:

- uninstalling and reinstalling itunes... doesn't work.
- opening Internet Explorer 7, then opening iTunes... doesn't work.
- searching for a host file and removing the phobos apple line... doesn't work. The phobos line wasn't there
- using itunes 7... doesn't work.
- flushing my dns... doesn't work.
- turning off my firewall.... doesn't work.
- avoiding clashes with mcafee or zone alarm... doesn't work, cos i don't use those

I think it's appalling that I've tried all this, and i'm still no closer to knowing what the problem is, and that Apple failed to respond to any of the other people's problems in the earlier thread. And that i spent about ten minutes signing up to this fecking forum just to ask for help. Surely support should be readily available to anyone!

Can anybody help me? In the other thread, people found alternative sites for buying music, but has anyone got an alternative, ipod-compatible podcasting program?

I had the same problem, and tried accessing the account from the apple store online like you recommended... My Credit Card Expiration Date was wrong because I just got a new card in the mail and activated yesterday... Updated that and presto! No connection problems anymore.

This is a horrible error on Apple's part, seeing as how iTunes doesn't say in the error message that it's a billing issue, but rather a connection issue. They need to fix this soon, or a lot of pepole will start going elsewhere when they get frustrated... Had I not seen this forum thread and the last post and being at wits end, I was going to just buy the CD I was looking for through Amazon!

Thanks for the advice!!!

Just wanted to express my frustration as well having experienced this all day. I tried everything in this post, called Apple, who had no information and have emailed their TS - who knows if I'll hear from them but I am beyond mad about this. I just don't get it - I can navigate around the entire iTunes platform, my diagnostics show I am totally connected, yet I receive the Network Connection Timed Out message when I try to download my purchase or podcasts. What gives?!

hey guys! I found this thread while I was frantically trying to find out what the deal is with this problem....

I just bought a brand new comp..vista (ugh i know), so I have the lastest version of itunes and transfered all my music files over from my old comp, so when I wanted to hear a song, the same timed out message came up. I had the same problem...internet connection fine, was able to see the store, and even hear the preview but couldnt buy anything.

I tried to authorize my comp, reset my password, checked to make sure my cc information was all ok.. nothing worked!
After finding this thread I went into a panic and then tried this-THAT WORKED.

I clicked Store-Sign In,on the menu bar and then entered my screen name and password...then nothing happend...no timed out message. So then when I clicked on the one of my songs that was not allowing me to hear, the sign in message popped up again..i entered my info once again and WALA!!! works now! I even went to the store and tried downloading a free song to be sure.. works without a hitch!

I hope this helps!

After reading everyone's thoughts, feelings & experiences (of which I am having also) I do believe this is an apple issue. Just 2 days ago I could purchase music & media on the iTunes store. I continue to receive the Network Timed Out message & there is NOTHING wrong with my computer or internet connection.

FIX THIS ALREADY!! It is Christmas and OF COURSE your network will be busy!! What the **** did you expect APPLE???? You want to sell all these **** products but can't get your **** network together enough so your customers can buy media!!

UGH!!

Thanks.

Im just a bit confused. I just tried to download some shows, and they timed out. All well and good but I do not know whether or not my account has been charged the amount for a product I have yet to recieve. I keep getting the timed out error and can access previews and everything else, it is just purchasing that is slow and crappy
