PNY Memory

I just found out (the hard way) that Kingston KVR RAM does not work in Powerbooks.

Does anyone know if the following brand will work?

ACP KTA-PBG4333/1G-AA (333MHz)

Thanks.

PS current config from Apple sys profiler:

SODIMM0/J25LOWER:

Size: 512 MB
Type: DDR SDRAM
Speed: PC2700U-25330
Status: OK

Powerbook G4, Mac OS X (10.4.10), 1.67GHz

Oh, that's good! You saved me the trouble.

I thought that was a typo for "remember." I'm going to do the TechTool Deluxe thing probably tonight and let it run into tomorrow. Hopefully it'll be done before I need to use it.

I want to migrate my files and start doing things with it. That'll probably also be a good tester as well. Seeing how Photoshop runs, InDesign, and if any issues come up like unexpected quits and the like.

Since those programs are intense memory users.

I just wanted you all to know that I have been using one of the 1gb PNY memory sticks in my 15" 1.25GHz FW800 daily for over a year now without a single problem.

I bought a 1gb ram stick to add to my Samsung 1gb stick at Staples just after Christmas 2006.
It was on sale for $69.99 plus I had a $20.00 Staples coupon which brought it down to $25-$35 less than anyone else's price for this type of ram back then.

The manager told me they carried no ram for Apple and that the on-sale PNY ram would not work in an Apple. He let me install it right there at the checkout counter with the guarantee that if it didn't work he would refund the money immediately.

I hope all of you who tried it are having the same success with it as I have experienced!

Did yours have the Hynix logo on it? Mine did, and I forgot to report that last week, I finally ran the Apple Hardware Test on the RAM (after acquiring the original install/restore discs on eBay) and everything passed. Including the RAM.

I did the extended test by the way.

I will run TechTool Deluxe next to see what that says. I have nothing against PNY memory since as I think I've said in previous posts, I used it to upgrade an iMac G3 DV 400MHz a long time ago, it's what I bought to upgrade my PowerMac G4 Dual to the max.

I just don't like to do or recommend it for aluminum PowerBook G4s because they've been known to be nitpicky with the RAM they accept. (Like these notebooks are alive, ha ha). I only went against my own recommendations because the modules were on sale for a steal at Best Buy and I had just bought this 15-inch PowerBook, also on eBay, so I was looking to save money.

The main reason I was confident to use it in this PowerBook was not because I had used PNY in the past (I still wouldn't have used it and would have gone for OEM Samsung or Micron), but for the fact that these newer PNY modules have the Hynix logo on them.

(Does anyone know if PNY has always been made by Hynix?).

REALLY?? Boy, that is interesting. Because that logo means--if I'm right in deciphering your description--that it's Micron RAM. That is also Apple OEM memory.

Either I've been very ignorant, or, just more attentive to details these days, but I've never known (from visual observation) PNY memory to be other brands but their "own."

It wouldn't be surprising though. Hynix's logo literally says "Hynix" and it's a branded font.

P.S. You're the first person to ask! My favorite computer of all time, before I bought my 12-inch PowerBook G4, and then this 15-inch I'm typing on (just recently) was a Pismo PowerBook. I had the stock version 400MHz (bought it used for $500) and upgraded it to PowerLogix's "BlueChip" 900MHz G3 upgrade for $395. When I joined Apple Discussions, that was my main computer. The Pismo. I said I'd never sell it, even after I bought the 12-inch last year, but after getting this 15-inch back in November, it was time to let it go while it still had resale value. Sold it for the same amount I bought it. Yes, I felt like dying when I let it go. (I hope I made good on the deal because I was sure I could sell it for more than that since it's kind of a rarity, the 900MHz upgraded ones).

Well Pismo 900,
To be honest, at my age I am prone to forget brand names and a lot of other things after a day let alone a year later.

However I do remember when I bought the ram at Staples a year ago that I thought since I have had good experiences with other PNY products, I will try their ram and with Staples100% refund guarantee how can I go wrong.
By the way, the label on the ram card that I bought there is Micron.
I wonder if ram is like so many other products today, lots of brand names, but very few actual manufacturers?

(I still have a Pismo with a 900 G4 Powerlogix processor in it that I can't bring my self to part with. Powerlogix denies ever having made such a creature. Whether that is true or not I can't say. They claim it is someone else's hack. All I know is that it has served me well during the past four years it has the altivec engine, it runs cool, and is extremely fast for a Pismo. My wife uses a Pismo with the Powerlogix G4 550 upgrade in it that can't match the speed of my 900 G4)

It's like my car. It has a Japanese brand, but the maker is GM. In fact, seven (7) cars share the internal body frame and structure, but all that is different is the outer shell, features, and the car company and brand name.

Wow again!

You have the 900MHz G4 processor? I've read on other forums of people saying "you must be mistaken since there was never a G4 900MHz but a G3 900MHz."

I guess it's like my 1.5GHz Mac mini G4. It doesn't exist officially. The box and label on the machine say 1.42GHz, but "About this Mac" shows the processor to be 1.5GHz. Though your 900MHz G4 is more rare than anything.

Don't sell it!!
