HP PSC 500 Driver

I need a driver for the HP PSC 500 Printer. www.hp.com doesn't have it for Mac, so I'm assuming that it didn't come with Leopard/my Mac.

Anybody know where to get it?

HP Pavilion a1120n/iBook G3 running 10.2.8, Windows XP, PC: 200GB HD, 3.06GHz, and 512MB RAM/Mac: 40GB HD, 900MHz, and 128MB RAM

Alright, I found actually two drivers for the HP PSC 500 (Gutenprint and hpijs). The only thing is my Mac won't recognize it.

The printer uses a parallel connection, so I have that plugged into the printer. Then to hook it up to my Mac, I have a parallel to USB converter cable. The USB end is in my computer, but my printer isn't recognized under system preferences.

So how do I get it to be recognized, or what's the problem?

Nope, unfortunately we've never supported this printer on the Mac (at least on Mac OS X), so you won't find any drivers on HP.com. I did do some digging, and found a couple of threads talking about USB to Parallel adaptors (a pretty good one on Macintouch). After reading through them, I'd say your best bet may be to take a look at USBTB.

It seems that quite a few people have had luck with this. Again, you milage may vary, and this configuration is in no way supported by HP, but you may be able to get it to work.

Just trying to help.

Thank you very much, although I'm not sure if it will help. It's installing right now.

I talked to an Apple specialist, who said that it's probably not recognized because of the converter cable. We checked and there is no software/drivers available for Mac for the cable.

Note: The installation is continuing and said that it recognized a printer, so it may work. If it does, thank you so much!

Edit: IT WORKED. THANK YOU SO MUCH!!! I have been working on this for hours, so this is a huge relief.

THANK YOU!!!! Huge help! I don't even have an HP printer -- I have a Pentax Pocketjet II (with proprietary parallel/usb converter cable) and could not get the thing installed in Leopard. Was driving me nuts. Pentax wasn't able to help -- hadn't tested their existing os x drivers with Leopard. (Their driver would install - but the Macbook could not tell there was a printer installed via USB - simply didn't recognize that it existed. So when I would try to print to it, I would just get 'printer off-line' messages. And the printer would NOT show up in the system pref/printers boxes, nor would it allow me to manually 'add', because, as far as the Macbook Pro was concerned, the printer didn't exist.) So I downloaded this program from 'buymelunch' -- installed it -- was able to manually point it to the Pentax Pocketjet II CUPS driver -- and BINGO. I will DEFINITELY be buying that kid lunch!!!! Thank you, so much!
