I'm using a plantronics .audio 85 headset. I've set the input to be the plantronics headset. This shows up in the sound preference pane. I have the sound output routed to the headset also. If I play a song in itunes I can here on the headset. I get no response from the microphone. I know the headset microphone works I connected it to my italk connected to my ipod and made a short recording of audio note. The sound was good.
I've searched the discussion boards and I haven't found any thing about what is causing this. This Plantronics headset uses a USB DSP Audio interface. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks
Ralph, yes it does. i've changed flipped the mute switch a couple of time and dialed the volume on headset a multiple times and I'm still not getting any volume out of the microphone on the headset. Any suggestions.
Yes, it is seen as an audio device in the Audio/midi setup. It doesn't show up as a midi device in the audio device tab it does have a sample rate of 44100.
You need LineIn. I also use a Plantronics headset for iChat and Dragon Naturally Speaking. Here's the LineIn description...
"LineIn is a simple application for OS X to enable the soft playthru of audio from input devices. In simpler terms, you can use LineIn to play sound coming in through a microphone or any other device plugged in to your Sound In port, just as was once available with OS 9's "Play input through output device" option."
Welles, I've uploaded a short movie showing my sound preference pane. During the movie I spoke into the microphone with ("testing 1,2,3, testing 1,2,3) in the movie you will notice that the sound doesn't even register. Here is the link

When I launch LineIn I get this little window on my desktop which allows me to assign input and output. The key is to click the Pass Thru button and you will immediately hear your mic input in your headphones.
I understand that. But the problem is that the microphone isn't responding. Even if I couldn't hear the microphone in the headset, the meter level should show that sound is reaching it. I'm not even seeing that. Once the meter shows something then I will start working on being able to hear it. I have soundsource from And I have the input set to the plantronics headset, output to the plantronics headset and the system sounds set to the plantronics headset.
