Best Way To Apply Protective Plastic/Shield

I bought the Power Support Crystal Film today for my (yet to be opened) iPhone. So before I open it, which will be later tonight, what's the best/effective way to apply the protective plastic on the iPhone LCD? Please advise. As I don't want to get any air bubble or small dust specks underneath the plastic.

This is the link to what I bought: http://store.apple.com/1-800-MY-APPLE/WebObjects/AppleStore.woa/wa/RSLID?mco=479 E6BBB&fnode=home/shopiphone/iphoneaccessories&nplm=TN612LL/A

Thanks in advance 🙂

For what it's worth, the iPhone is darned durable. I had to replace mine last month (AppleCare very much worth it) and the guy at the Apple Store peeled off the plastic shield I'd used, then borrowed an associate's keys and tried to scratch the face. Nothing. He said he'd actually broken a razor blade on one (not, mind you, that I recommend either course of action under any circumstances)....

When I first bought my iPhone back in June I bought a protective case for it... but it was too bulky to fit in my front pocket... and it took away the "bling" effect of the phone. A few days later I decided to ditch the case... and have had no protection since. The phone looks as new as it did the day I bought it. Mind you I don't put anything else in the same pocket.

Think about it... would you buy a Cadillac and then go to Wal-Mart's Auto department to dress it up?

I've done it per the instructions in the pack.

You lay the iphone on a dustfree surface face up, you wipe the touchscreen clean with the cloth that came with the iphone.

Then with a steady hand, peel back one end of the plastic and line up one of the holes. Which ever end you start there is a cutout slot - either the earpiece at the top end, or the home button at the bottom end.

The sheet should be guided to follow the outline of the glass. There is some tolerance where the slots are.

I have something very similar to that one. I found that the first time I applied it, I got it a little cockeyed onto the phone and I was unhappy with it. I wish I had pulled it up and re-applied it immediately, but I didn't. The result was that after some time, the bits of the adhesive that was ultimately exposed at the edges because it wasn't on exactly straight got very dirty and unappealing.

So, the 2nd time around (new film), I applied it with a different approach. Of course, I cleaned the surface of the phone with a lens-safe cloth, then, I picked up film very carefully by its edges to prevent fingerprints, then pinched it a bit so that the sticky side bulged downwards from side to side. and then I could very carefully apply the film *from the centre* of the front face of the iPhone. This allowed me to use the holes in the film for the speaker at the top and the Home button at the bottom for alignment against the same features on the iPhone. When I felt like I had it lined up nicely, I then allowed the film to touch the iPhone, which it did in a nice neat line straight down the iPhone's front face. Then, I relaxed the pinch so that one side lay down on the iPhone, then I used my lens cloth and my thumbnail to burnish the film flat onto that side from the centre out so that the bubbles would escape. Next, I burnished down the other side and voilĂ , I was done - PERFECT!

I hope this helps!

In the manual it is suggested not to use any chemical products on the iPhone.

I would suggest cleaning it with the included cloth that came with the iPhone and then applying the film cover.

Also a really good tip in that video is to smooth all the air bubbles out with a soft cloth.

Take your time is my best advice... I have had film covers on other devices I rushed and some bubbles are hard to get out.

Worth 5 minutes of tedious work to get it right.
