iDVD crashes when using 7.0 themes

I am using iDVD for a school project. I was using the theme "Revolution", put all my videos and slideshows. I used preview to check it and the main menu came up. I clicked for one of my submenus and the transition started. My computer showed the beach ball and then froze. Everything, from the dock to the program itself. I had to hold the power button to restart.

I opened iDVD again and tried going to the submenu first then using preview. I now had the submenu in preview, I clicked a button to go back to the main menu and same problem.

Next I tried to burn a DVD to avoid preview and while rendering the menus it froze again.

I decided to switch to a 6.0 theme and everything worked fine, even burning a DVD. When I decided to use a different 7.0 theme the same problem occured. I believe my 7.0 themes are corrupted and iDVD does not recognize they are.

Does anyone know how to fix this problem? The 7.0 themes are much nicer for the project I am doing. Can I download the 7.0 themes from somewhere?

P.S. I tried reinstalling iLife and iDVD several times as well as updating and no progress.

Hi,

Yes. I re-installed iDVD and the upgrade. I then think I identified the problem. iDVD appears to hang if you import a clip that has broken links to the assets. I had a clip that for some reason or another lost a couple links to a couple rendered clips. iDVD did not provide any sort of error message but when I tried to load the clip into Quicktime, I got an error message.

I'm running a couple tests now to see if the problem is fixed.

Just got my new mac and trying to use dvd 08, after being a regular user of earlier versions.. Having read the trail of discussions on this topic i find myself with the same problems but not sure of the or if there is a solution.. Have tried to burn a fairly basic dvd, (theme intro, movie), and can't get it passed the encoding menu stage.. have tried 7.0 and 6.0 themes.. A part of this might be because i can't seem to get the theme music to a) play or to b) change..

Any answers, advice would be welcome.
Thanks

I continue to have problems with 6 and 7.0 themes. I am using the old themes and it is working. But, one thing I have discovered is that one need to have at least 40 Gigs of free space in the main HD and the same or more in the scratch disc ( I purchased a WD 1Tb external drive just for this type of work. Very inexpensive). Never use your internal HD for saving your video data. Do it all in your external hard drive. Leave your internal HD for your operating system and applications. Also, do not use your video editing computer as a general use computer. Uninstall all unimportant applications. The chances of corrupting your important editing programs is increased by adding unnecessary applications and/or plug-ins.

Same problem as all the rest of you here. Macbook pro 2.4, leopard 10.5.1, idvd 8 latest update. Computer locks up solid at different points during the creation process.
I was on the phone with apple support for four hours, I reintstalled everything even the entire leopard operating system, a nervous moment for this amateur, but nothing has worked or solved my problem. Of course I am very disappointed, and feel I spent $300 for extra support for nothing. Now I am looking for other DVD creation programs, since IDVD is useless to me. Any suggestions?
