Looks like no one’s replied in a while. To start the conversation again, simply ask a new question.

"...cannot be synced. The required file cannot be found"

Since upgrading to latest iTunes, my ipod had a huge amount of non-video and non-music space not awailable (the orange section of the bar). Therefore, I reset my pod to factory settings.

It now won't sync at all!

When I try to sync, it syncs the playlist names etc. but that is all, everything's empty and I just get the message:

"...cannot be synced. The required file cannot be found"

Please can someone help, I miserable here!

P.S. My pod now also now crashes and even when I have ejected it from iTunes, manually edjected it from windows, and shut down, it still says not to disconnect and needs a force restart (by pressing the middle and top wheel together). Never had any kind of problems before and my pod is loved and coveted.

I have a 30GB 5th generation. I tried this but to no avail. I also tried the Restore option from within ITunes and it failed as well. My Ipod disappeared from the Itunes screen and now it just says 'Do Not Disconnect' on the IPod. I am not having this problem with any of our other IPods. In addition to the one above we have (2) additional 30GB 5th generation and (2) 4GB Nano's. Of course we have not upgraded any of the other and do not plan to...
I don't know what to try next. I hope someone helps.

I have the solution!

It's a bug on the iPod Photo Cache. Sometimes this cache ain't done right, especially when there's a huge amount of data to be synced.

You should manualy select the folders you want to sync, in order to isolate the part or the cache is defective. To do so, first deselect all folders, then start selecting a few of them (5, for example). Do a sync and keep selecting and syncing until you find the bad folders. When you have all bad folders identified, cut the photos from those folders and paste them into a temp folder. Do the sync again to purge those files from the cache an then start putting them back into the original folders, syncing form time to time. Do not put all the files together to minimize the chances of a bad cache again! When everything is fine again, I mean, when every folder is synced, you can mark "All photos" in the iTunes, if you like to keep syncing automatically every new picture you take.

This might work for you,
