1.0.3 :: Share Your Experiences

I'm on my 3rd iPod Classic 160GB & was smart; I left the firmware v1.0fc1 on it that it came with out of the box due to the MANY well known issues we've all experienced with 1.0.2.

Anyways, I just noticed 2 threads talking about the available 1.0.3. It must have been released a few hours ago b/c there's only 2 threads on it.

_*MY QUESTIONS:*_

Before I update to 1.0.3, can someone who has already updated to it please answer the following:

1) Has the battery leaking issue been resolved?

2) Will it play in a speaker docking station now without sleeping when controlled via Remote Control?

3) How was Cover Flow improved / enhanced (least of my worries).

4) Is there more features & activity available for the Calendar & Contacts feature or do they still need to be mostly controlled from your computer?
I ask b/c I'm an iPod addict & also have a iPod Touch 16GB & it's latest update (1.1.2) now allows users to create their own events on their calendar whereas before calendar entries could ONLY be created on a computer.

Please reply if you know any answers to my questions & 'share the knowledge'.

Thanks!

Looking forward to a much better iPod Classic experience with the newly available 1.0.3 update.

One almost never sees GOOD news on these forums, but . . .

GREAT, GREAT NEWS HERE! The On-The-Go playlist feature is working perfectly under 1.0.3! However, it DID take the tandem of "revert to factory settings" and a complete re-installation of my library on the 'Pod to effect the repair.

But, was THAT minor inconvenience ever worth it!! My iPod Classic 160 is now, officially, the best player in the stable (three other 'Pods now)!

THANKS, Apple!

Hello everybody,
some experiences with the ipod classic 160GB

After the update my ipod classic 160GB stops playing after a while when docked in the jbl radial micro speakerdock.
This was also an issue with the previous firmware.....

Also the ipod only connects to my clarion max973HD in my car after i give the ipod a reset.
This was not an issue with the previous firmware.....

Hopefully these isues will be solved in the next firmware?

Hi! After switching from FAT to HFS+ for updating my ipod from the macbook, i connected it to my linux box and synced some songs. Then saw that counter with 0 songs and thought that the itunesdb got corrupted somehow. Then i retransferred all the songs (took 4 hours, as they needed some transcoding). I wish i hadnt trusted that counter 🙂.

So, Apple decides that only their accessories can work? What's not wrong about that? I mean come on, isn't it enough that we spend $300+ for these units? I and my wife both had the new 80gig classics and we just purchased the Pioneer D3 Nav/Entertainment system for our truck. I searched both the Apple and Pioneer sites for connectivity to the iPod. Both said yes, so we purchased the iPod video cable to be installed as well, an additional $40.00. So we get it all installed and my iPod video worked for one day...until I installed the 1.0.3 firmware, and now it won't. My wifes iPod is still the 1.0.2 and it works. Everyone says there is some sort of chip in the stuff that will not allow the iPods to be used with any other company's cables. Why? It's not right that Apple creates this product and then makes it so you must buy only their accessories. It would be like me paying for my iPod with a check that they can only cash at one bank. So...my next issue is, if this is the case why the $%#$^ doesn't Apple sell the video cable for the Nav systems? I would really like to watch my iPod videos, that by the way I PAY for, on the system I was led to believe I could use. And yes, I do blame Apple, it IS their fault. And NO, I'm not saying they set out to screw me over but in the end they did...

Ok, Since firmware 1.0.3 doesn't seem to allow the Classic to play video on approved Navigation Systems (Pioneer D3) even with the $40 EXTRA cable, I wanted to retore to 1.0.2, and I followed instructions on this forum but alas, it restored BACK to the dreaded 1.0.3. Any ideas? I would really like to use this expensive media player on my new expensive Nav system like I was told I could...And yes, I know...Apple is a good and honest company. But they sure seem to like to chop us off at the knees.

There still is the continued VIdeo Playlist Bug after the 1.0.3 software update. If you create a video playlist with videos (not music videos or video podcasts, but most other mp4 or m4v files), it will show up in both the audio playlist and video playlist menus. In the video playlist menu, all files open/play fine. In the audio playlist menu, the video playlists are listed as having "0 SONGS" and when the playlist is clicked, the ipod hangs on a white screen until you press menu to return back to the audio playlist menu... I have confirmed this on my 160GB classic and on another 80GB classic. I have contacted apple via their "feedback" links, but who knows what happens after that...

Try changing the ipod's drive letter with Disk Management.

Right-click on My Computer icon on your Desktop -> Manage -> find Disk Management on the left side of the windows.
Then find the ipod, right-click it and choose "Change Drive Letter and Paths", click Change and choose another (free) letter. Click OK to every question/window and close Disk Management.

I've solved the issue a couple of times with this trick.
Only for windows...
