1.0.3 :: Share Your Experiences

I'm on my 3rd iPod Classic 160GB & was smart; I left the firmware v1.0fc1 on it that it came with out of the box due to the MANY well known issues we've all experienced with 1.0.2.

Anyways, I just noticed 2 threads talking about the available 1.0.3. It must have been released a few hours ago b/c there's only 2 threads on it.

_*MY QUESTIONS:*_

Before I update to 1.0.3, can someone who has already updated to it please answer the following:

1) Has the battery leaking issue been resolved?

2) Will it play in a speaker docking station now without sleeping when controlled via Remote Control?

3) How was Cover Flow improved / enhanced (least of my worries).

4) Is there more features & activity available for the Calendar & Contacts feature or do they still need to be mostly controlled from your computer?
I ask b/c I'm an iPod addict & also have a iPod Touch 16GB & it's latest update (1.1.2) now allows users to create their own events on their calendar whereas before calendar entries could ONLY be created on a computer.

Please reply if you know any answers to my questions & 'share the knowledge'.

Thanks!

Looking forward to a much better iPod Classic experience with the newly available 1.0.3 update.

What search bug? I heard of this a couple of times now but my search works perfectly fine.
anyways, I would highly recommend you to switch to 1.0.3, search bug or not. it's not the same iPod as with 1.0.2, it's so ... flawless 😀 seriously, it's much much much much faster, especially the wheel works perfectly fine now and isn't jumpy anymore at all. but it's your choice.

I personally think this update made the classic an iPod. it works really well now, fast, most bugs are gone, I can use all functions now (games, EQ, ...), my tv shows are sorted correctly now, very very nice. I even think my EU-iPod is a little louder than before. it's still too silent with normalization turned on but I will try to find my way around it.

very nice update! highly recommended! only downside is you have to turn off the click-noise since it sounds horrible through headphones and for some reason an "only iPod" option is missing.

With 1.0.2 happens that when you do a search, if you select an artist from the results to see the albums it has, the iPod shows you all songs you have in the library. Too happens that if you select a song from the results, the iPod plays a different song, you have to go back and select it again. These happens very often.

PD: I've never stood the clickwheel noise. Always turned off.

first of all regarding search: the artist-thing seems to be fixed. when I select an artist it shows the artists albums, no problems.
the song-bug is still there. if you select a song, it selects a completly different songs. after pressing menu once and by that going back to your search results all songs you select are selected correctly, so it's maybe a little annoying, but not a really big deal. 2 keypresses more (one for selecting the wrong song and one for going back to the search results). for me it could never be a reason to stick with 1.0.1 or 1.0.2 (I was so surprised how accurate and fast the click wheel works now, never had an iPod before and thought the old behaviour was normal or almost normal. would not want to miss that out.) but as I said, decide for yourself. but I'd say there will be an update soon because click-noise needs fixing anyways. I would say search gets fixed with that either.

secondly: the volume-raise is NOT in any way official. it's just what I BELIEVE to have noticed. but even if it WAS raised, it was raised very little at best.

Some other changes:
For compilations, the "artist" when browsing cover flow or the compilations menu, is now "Various Artists", rather than just showing the first artist in the list.
Also, when in cover flow, for artists who have music in both albums and compilations, i believe the compilation would show up in version 1.0.2. Now, compilations are now grouped together at the end.
Finally, can anyone confirm that when you click on one of two similar-titled albums in coverflow, you actually get just the album by that artist, rather than both combined?

james.

One very stupid bug still exists. If, while playing a song, you click the center button four times to get to the Off/Songs/Album shuffle settings, then move the selection OFF of the currently selected one and then move it back, it resets your shuffle to "1 of XXXX". You can then no longer go back to a previously played song, as the shuffle has reset. This is dumb. Accidentally moving the shuffle selection should not reset the shuffle play order.
