1.0.3 :: Share Your Experiences

I'm on my 3rd iPod Classic 160GB & was smart; I left the firmware v1.0fc1 on it that it came with out of the box due to the MANY well known issues we've all experienced with 1.0.2.

Anyways, I just noticed 2 threads talking about the available 1.0.3. It must have been released a few hours ago b/c there's only 2 threads on it.

_*MY QUESTIONS:*_

Before I update to 1.0.3, can someone who has already updated to it please answer the following:

1) Has the battery leaking issue been resolved?

2) Will it play in a speaker docking station now without sleeping when controlled via Remote Control?

3) How was Cover Flow improved / enhanced (least of my worries).

4) Is there more features & activity available for the Calendar & Contacts feature or do they still need to be mostly controlled from your computer?
I ask b/c I'm an iPod addict & also have a iPod Touch 16GB & it's latest update (1.1.2) now allows users to create their own events on their calendar whereas before calendar entries could ONLY be created on a computer.

Please reply if you know any answers to my questions & 'share the knowledge'.

Thanks!

Looking forward to a much better iPod Classic experience with the newly available 1.0.3 update.

iPod Classic 160GB (Black) + iPod Touch 16GB, Windows XP Pro, Using a Classic 160GB Black + a 16 GB Touch. Have used 3rd, 4th 5th generations.

first of all @lyrics: this is no new feature. you (or a script or anything like that) created a lyrics folder in the notes folder of your iPod. folders in your notes folder will show as menus on the iPod.

you can access your lyrics while listening when pressing the center button numberous times btw (of course you have to add lyrics in iTunes first)

@dave: if you really feel like the wheel has gotten MORE jumpy with this update when changing volume you should seriously get your iPod checked, since it's absolutly 100% the opposite of what really happened 😀

I updated my 160G classic pod and it recognized my Apple Hi-Fi speakers! Thank you Apple. Now if it will only play without shutting down after a few minutes. I use it as a wake-up alarm (the label is now retained). I'll find out in the morning. My pod is acting a little buggy, like losing main menu settings after re-booting the pod, but playlists is definitely faster response time, no hanging. Will keep looking for more changes, but the speaker fix is most welcome.

@m8an
well, all I can say is I'm glad it got better for you, but it did seem to get worse for me. Not a huge deal anyway, as most of the time when I change volume I'm not looking at it, just an observation I had for my ipod, which seems to be in the minority. Maybe I'm just scrolling to fast 🙂 I am disappointed though that they still didn't get rid of, or make the time/arrow screensaver an option.

@havemusicwilltravel
It recognize the Apple Hi-Fi Speakers now? Really? Same options than on the 5th gen Version?
Cover shown while playing songs and Backlight settings when connected?
This would be great news, getting all excited coming home after a rainy business week in Liverpool for checking that out 😉

@m8an
I was just wondering where he had this folder/option of Lyrics but thanks for clarifying it.

Cheers,

S.

Yeah, search is still @#!$#'ed up.

Other things I HAVE noticed: Audio IS much louder. AND, when you unplug your headphones while playing, the iPod automatically goes into Pause. You have to rehook and hit play to resume, at least on mine. (maybe it is now broken!)

CLICK WHEEL SOUND!@#$!@ Eck! I thought I was suddenly getting the dreaded static. Yeah, where the **** did they sample that sound? From a cat scraping litter out of it's arse?

Where did you find this Lyrics option?
I checked and couldn't find it.

Cheers,

S.

You won't see Lyrics unless:
1) The song you added / downloaded had them
2) You added them.

To add them, right click on the song in iTunes, go to the Lyrics tab & paste (or type) them.

Sync up & when playing that song on your iPod, you'll see them after hitting the center button a few times.

The dreaded static? What's that? Oh, and overall, tbh I didn't notice that much difference between 1.0.2 and 1.0.3, to me, the cover flow seems jerkier, and yeah there is a progress bar for when you can disconnect your ipod, but common sense tells me that as soon as you get that message on screen, you can disconnect it anyway? What do you need a progress bar for?
