Problems with Roadrunner email setup

Has anyone else had issues with setting up a Roadrunner email account in 10.5? The automatic setup gives me this message:

Trying to log into the SMTP server "smtp-server.neo.rr.com" failed. Make sure the user name and password you entered are correct, then click Continue. If the information isn't correct, you cannot send email."

I have verified that my information is correct, and have even tried to manually set things up. The same exact e-mail address and settings worked fine in 10.4. But, after upgrading to Leopard, the Mail application won't cooperate.

Can anyone please help?

I'm using 10.5.4 and I've been having the same problem with my Road Runner e-mail account all weekend. I could receive incoming mail and RSS feeds just fine, but outgoing mail was giving me an SMTP server error every time. I've been playing around with the settings and now have it working, these are the settings I'm using:

Mail > Preferences > Accounts > Account Information

Incoming Mail Server: pop-server.tampabay.rr.com
User Name: user ID (does not include"@tampabay.rr.com")
Password: your password

Outgoing Mail Server: smtp-server.tampabay.rr.com
Use only this server: checked

If you click on the drop down menu for the smtp server and choose "Edit Server List..." and choose the Advanced tab for these settings:

Server port: 25
Use Secure Sockets Layer (SSL): unchecked
Authetication: None

Mail > Preferences > Accounts > Advanced

Port: 110
Use SSL: unchecked
Authentication: Password

Hope this helps anyone else having similar problems.

I'm having same sort of problem, but worse: Get same message as many others when trying to set up mail account: Trying to log into the SMTP server "smtp-server.neo.rr.com" failed. Make sure the user name and password you entered are correct, then click Continue. If the information isn't correct, you cannot send email."
BUT, it never allows me to access Mail Preferences ... the Preferences selection on the Menu is ALWAYS grayed out ... ALWAYS. I've tried every option imaginable to bring it up, with no success. So, without being able to even access Mail Preferences, I don't see anyway of utilizing ajmac's fix.
Ideas?

Lots of problems setting up roadrunner email account. I've tried most of the suggestions but I'm still having trouble receiving emails. I don't have access to all my emails on my PC (dell) that is connected to roadrunner. However, I do seem to get new emails only when I'm on the macbook in mail?? I can send out new messages from the macbook. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thx.

ajmac125: Thanks so much for the information........ I tried everything you said and, now, finally I can send and receive my roadrunner mail via Mail 3.5..... I was about to just delete Mail 3.5 and forget about the whole thing until I read your post..........You're awesome! Shouldn't software just work? It's ridiculous that regular people should have to format all this crap on own own. I didn't pay good money to mac to have to do this myself. Ok....anyhow....thanks again; I greatly appreciate it. Later

LANCE IS NOW A HAPPY CAMPER! WOOOOHOOOOOOO!

Settings for Leopard Mail with Roadrunner.

Preferences>Account
This is assuming your name, email, password and incoming (pop) mail server are correct.

Under account information tab set:

Outgoing Mail Server (SMTP) to None and uncheck Use only this server.

Under Advanced:

set Port to 110
uncheck Use SSL
authentication to Password.

Save settings

Worked for me...
