Apple Event: May 7th at 7 am PT

Looks like no one’s replied in a while. To start the conversation again, simply ask a new question.

iMac Starts Up Automatically at Midnight. Why?

Since I installed Leopard my (intel) iMac's been automatically starting up at midnight on certain nights of the week (Tuesday night is one).

Does anyone know why this is happening and more importantly how I can stop it?

I've been having the same problem for some time now after I updated to Leopard.
At first i thought I was crazy; my macbook was waking itself up some time around at midd night without the Energy Saver settings…

OS 10.5.2
No Tv software
Haven't used time machine yet > Its inactive
Energy Saver settings are unchecked
All external peripherals besides power plug > disconnected

The funny thing is that if I leave the laptop unpluged from power, it will not start up automatically at midd night, instead it will start up as soon as I plug back the power adaptor.

I'll try to erase the "Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration/com.apple.AutoWake.plist"
and then restart the PRAM.

Then I'll report back the results.

I've read the whole forum and I find it very helpful.
thanx to you all

Also think apple should fix this bug

For what it is worth, I've had a different but possibly related problem-- can't get medialink to start sharing due to a "port 1900" and "port 9386" error. Activity viewer shows eyeconnectwatchd is running. After much frustration, deleted eyeconnect files from library/startupitems. No more eyeconnectwatchhd. It is a shame that Elgato says the only thing one needs to do to "uninstall" eyeconnect is to delete the preference pane. That didn't do the trick alone. Had to delete the eyeconnect files from startupitems to end this madness!

Hello everyone, new to Mac and my Mac also started up on its own this am. here is the system log.
Any help would be appreciated. My energy settings are not set to wake automatically.
Can any one explain the italicized items? What is "cpe-70-115-201-227"?

I am in Australia and my new iMac 24" 2.8ghz starts up at 10am every day, I guess I am luckier than those of you whose computer starts at midnight or 1am.

This problem is doing my head in. I have been troubleshooting this for the past week or so and yesterday was my most successful day when to my surprise it didn't start at 10am. Half an hour before 10am I had unplugged all cables except the power cable, repaired disk permissions, and turned of my wireless keyboard and mouse.

So this morning before 10am I plugged back in my adsl modem and my eyeTV tuner and left my wireless keyboard and modem on and hey presto the darn thing started up again. So tomorrow I shall try turning off my mouse and keyboard again and leave eyetv and my modem connected and see what happens.

I am pretty sure its not an eyeTV problem because a few days ago I unplugged the eyetv tuner and uninstalled the eyeTV software and its associated files and it still started up by itself.

Anyway the saga continues. I am however glad that I am not the only one with the problem.

Jun 8, 2008 5:44 PM in response to brainfog

I have had enough of this. I have now tried everything to solve this problem, unplugging cables, uninstalling software, turning off automatic update settings in software, turning off automatic startup in energy saving preferences, resetting PRAM, even reinstalling system software. Nothing has worked, I also sent an email to apple to let them know, but i would like to think they are already aware of it.

Has anyone else got any ideas, or perhaps you have had success in solving this problem.

Jun 11, 2008 7:37 PM in response to brainfog

finally I am having a bit of success. It seems that the "energy saver" setting in system preferences is the culprit.

Up till now I have had the "start up or wake" setting set to off because I have no use for it. And I figured while it is off it can't cause any problems.

So the last few days I have been leaving it on and have set it to start up on Saturday's at 9am, and low and behold it is no longer starting at 10am every day.

The interesting thing is that as soon as I turn off the "start up or wake" setting which i did this morning, and then quit out of preferences, and then go back to preferences and open it up again it has reset itself to "everyday" and the time to "12am" instead of "Saturdays" at "9am".

I'm not sure if this is a bug or not, but it sure doesn't seem normal to me. I would have thought that if you turn something off it won't cause any hassles.

It still hasn't really solved the problem, but at least it now only starts itself once a week on a Saturday instead of every day (or at least I hope so).

iMac Starts Up Automatically at Midnight. Why?
