ipod classic 80 g vibration?

New ipod classic 80g hard drive vibrates and can hear clicking when it's plugged into my mac. When viewing photos or changing menu there's a slight hesitation, vibration and clicking.
Is this normal? (had a 4g mini before... no problems)
