Looking for MAC USB driver for Yamaha RP-U100 Personal Reciever

Hello, Searched forums w/o any luck. Anyone out there runing one of the Yamaha CAVIT Personal Recievers (Amplified Audiophile grade external sound card)?

Detaisl on the Yamaha here- http://www.yamahamultimedia.com/yec/products/cavit/rpu100.asp

BTW, it has been discontinued fo rseveral years, but is really cool component foru Audiophile enthusiasts.

My set up is 2.0 Ghz Macbook Pro running the latest version of Tiger.

I bought one of the Yamahas after seeing posts that Yamaha had developed a MAC compatible software interface, only to find out that Yamaha no longer offers the MACC download on thier site. This is an a older product and from waht I can gather the MAC interface ws in beta, althoghh there are some reviews out there that indicate the Ymaha divice was supported and operated by simply plugging in the USB connection to thier Macs.

The Yamaha does show up in the sound devices on my Macbook Pro and the MBP built in speakers are bypassed when I select the Ymaha under sound devices, however I am not getting any signal to the Yamaha. OS indicates that the Yamaha has no output controls and I am assuming that is because I have not installed any drivers.

I currently have it operating using the digital optical out on my Airport Eexpress, but i don't know if that is as clean as the direct USB connection would be. My goal is to bypass the MBP internal sound card an dprovide the Yamaha the best signal possible to drive my Polk Audio Sat Sub.

Anyone out there runing one of these succesfully or know where i might locate the drivers fo rdownload? I have inquired with Yamaha customer service and am awaiting a reply.

MBP 2.0, Mac OS X (10.4.11)

My RP-U200 is working under 10.5.2 macbook; but it required some easy hacking.
I took an older AppleUSBAudio.kext, from 10.4.8 or 10.4.9 and replaced the 10.5.2's AppleUSBAudio.kext with it.

(Directions taken from http://barryp.org/blog/entries/logitech-quickcam-pro-5000-mac-mini/

Open a Terminal and do:
=====
sudo -s
(type in password)

cd /System/Library/Extensions
kextunload AppleUSBAudio.kext

(backup the AppleUSBAudio.kext directory somewhere else)
(copy the 10.4.9 AppleUSBAudio.kext directory to this directory)

(permissions got changed moving between machines, fix that up)
chown -R root:wheel AppleUSBAudio.kext

kextload AppleUSBAudio.kext

=====
done, no restart required, seems stable.

Thanks, I got it working, too.

My workaround was slightly different in that it didn't involve terminal commands, here's how:

– download Pacifist at charlessoft.com
– download combo updater 10.4.9 (couldn't find the separate applusbaudio kext anywhere, so this was needed) at Apple swupdate
– open the .pkg combo updater in Pacifist
– navigate to /system/library/extensions (within Pacifist)
– option-click on appleusbaudio.kext and choose to install to default location
– to be safe, remove the extensions cache file on your harddrive (found in /system/library) and empty trash
– reboot.

Now I have a fully working RP-U200, without any problems. Haven't tried on Leopard yet, this was on a tibook with 10.4.11. Will check when upgrading this machine and report on this board.

Now if anybody could hint me how to hack the Audio Midi setup to enable 6 channel sound via USB output, I would be really happy. The RP-U200 hardware should support that very nicely. It's a great device. Too bad Yamaha ceased development.
