cracks appearing around my keyboard

All manufacturing defects are covered. Read the AppleCare manual for further detail. Also call Apple, it needs to be fixed pronto.

Yes this was a problem that MANY have faced before, including my sister. Lucky for her, she still had the 1 year warranty, and so she brought it back to the Apple store, and they replaced it. I believe that Apple will also addressed this problem, if you are under warranty that is.

I have the same problem, and it's the second time that it's happening to my mac in one year.

I got my MacBook last December. I had the entire keyboard panel replaced in July this year due to the crack which had eventually lead to a string detached from the lower right corder of the palm-rest. Of course the replacement was free because it was still within one year warranty. Now, only less than 6 months later, the same place is cracking again.

I do not believe that us, the owners, should be responsible for this seem to be a "normal" defect of the panel and have to renew our warranty to keep replacing the panel (hoping that this is the only defect that we will be confronting).

My 1-year warranty is over, but I just purchased AppleCare for extra coverage. Would Apple still replace the crack in my panel?

Yes, they should if you can convince them its a manufacturing defect. (Which probably won't be hard, as MANY people have had this particular problem repaired.)

Have you taken your MacBook back in to be examined by a Mac Genius / Service technician? That'd be the next step to see if even though the machine is out of warranty, there still might be some entitlement to a replacement top case.
