iTunes Automatic import

iTunes Automatic import

I frequently download audiobook files from internet sites . After downloading the file(s) iTunes automatically imports and starts playing them. I DO NOT want this to happen. I wish to control this manually. I've tried iTunes preferences but can't determin how to change this.

Please let me know how to stop automatic import and playback.

Preferences>advanced>importing tab, at that point uncheck the box, "play songs while importing or converting" should resolve the problem of automatic playback, not quite sure how to stop the auto-import.

Thanks for the response. Unfortunately, I already have that box UNCHECKED and it still does the auto import and play. If you find anything else let me know.

I have a couple of thoughts. Try this: select one of the files that you've downloaded, Get Info, then change Open with to Quicktime Player and underneath, Change all. I can't promise but it may help. Also, what browser are you using? You should be able to tell it not to open the file. In Firefox, for example, it's under Prefs>Content>File Types and then you can just have it safe the files rather than open them. I think, in Safari, Preferences>General and then uncheck Open safe files after downloading.

I think that the settings you referred to only affect importing a CD. Not really sure because I always kept it turned off.

Thanks to all whom responded. Yes, that's it, it has to do with the browser preferences, not iTunes. Changed Safari preferences to not open files after download and this apears to have stopped the auto import and play.
