best amp simulation software for guitar?

I'm very happy with NI Guitar Rig2

Guitars are a very personal thing. I'd suggest trawling the various amp sim sites, listen to the audio clips, and try out the demos.

Go with whatever product best works for you.

There' not much point in telling you what I prefer, as I am not you... 😉

Well I own all 3 (Line 6 Gearbox Gold, Amplitube 2, Guitar Rig 3) and wouldn't say that 1 is better than the others. I like each for different reasons. IMHO they all sound good and you can't go wrong with any of them. Like Bee Jay suggested try the demos out (although you can't really do that with Gearbox cuz you need their hardware). Both Amplitube 2 and Guitar Rig 3 have downloadable demos that you can try out. I'd be happy to answer any specific questions you have. Ciao4now...

I agree - Amplitube 2 and Guitar Rig 3 are great! I also am using the demo right now for REVALVER MK II and it's nice... very good tube-amp sounds (and I have a few real tube amps). Also I am trying out Studio Devil BVC (it's FREE!) also has some great sounds but Amplitube 2 and Guitar Rig 3 are tops in my opinion.

I can elaborate - DIGIDESIGN.

That NAME carries a hefty price tag with far less everything than the competition. $700 for your most basic firewire Digi system. And then, you only get 32 tracks. The only thing that makes Digidesign worthwhile are the HD systems.

I mean, they have a decent compressor plugin that costs $500.

Logic Studio is $500 and comes with a better compressor plugin. With that money and a little bit more, I could drop another really nice preamp into my 500 series lunchbox. . .

Digidesign eleven probably sounds great. . . their stuff normally does. You can normally get way better stuff, however, for MUCH less from other companies. Such as NI's guitar rig. Been using it for a few years now. . . and it sounds pretty darn incredible.

I use it to reamp a lot of stuff. . . great plugin.

What is wrong with Guitar Amp Pro in Logic?

Depending on what you're looking for, you owe it to yourself to check out Speakerphone from Audioease. I like GAP, but Speakerphone is in another realm altogether. Absolute jaw dropping fun.

Studio Devil BVC seems to be VST only. Do you know if they plan to release an AU version?

If the world would just get off of their deceived thought that PT is so far beyond anything else, everyone would be making the same great music for much less money.

Don't get me wrong. . . PT is great. . . but. . . seriously. . . Logic is right there with it. . . all the systems have problems. But Logic w/ Apogee stuff. . . killer combo.

On that note, it would behoove every Logic user to join as many Logic user groups as you can manage. The Yahoo Logic Users Group recently had a group buy for Speakerphone--very interesting and impressive plug-in.
