best amp simulation software for guitar?

Hi guys,

I tried to edit some (dry) guitar recordings with GAP and also eq'd the sound with TCs EQSat. I don't think it's so bad but it still sounds kind of harsh. Now I'm considering to purchase something like IK Amplitube - does it sound significant better? What about line 6 and native instruments?
Do you have any recommendations?

Thanks Eddie

Hi,

thank you so much for your feedback. I tried Amplitube and Guitar Rig today and as you said, they both sound great. I also will try out REVALVER MK II.

Personally I think the interface of guitar rig is more appealing and the sounds blow you away. Although sometimes to hard compressed - I have to mess with the settings. But Amplitube has also very very nice sounds and it is still hard for me to decide which one I will purchase.

Compared to GAP they both sound like heaven. GAP sounds kind of thin and high frequency emphasising. Its a nice tool for arranging and trying out but for producing I cannot use it. In comparison Amplitube and Guitar rig sound like a wall!!

Since I do not aim to spend eleven-thousand dollars I will spare Digi Eleven (nevertheless thanks!)

Cheers Eddie

I use the VST version of Studio Devil (full version) on my PC, and it is quite good, especially for the price! Runs great in Cubase and Samplitude.

I also have the OS X version of the BVC (free version) VST plugin, and it sounds the same as the PC version. Studio Devil will be coming out in an AU version "soon," according to the email I got from them this week.

I tried the Eleven trial for a short time, and the Studio Devil sounds just as good for most purposes, it costs WAY less, and its CPU load is small compared to Eleven.

When the AU version is released, I'll be buying a copy to run in Logic.

Actually I found GUITAR AMP PRO to be very good. With minor tweaking the amps are as good as most of the high-priced sims. I also add a few plug-ins here and there (Vintage Warmer for one - Predatohm too)... I have a few REAL tube amps sitting here and I can dial in a rather convincing tube sound with GAP. GAP is becoming one of my "go to" sims and MAINSTAGE has some great presets for Blues & ClassicRock. I still like Amplitube 2 for Death Metal. Here's a great forum for Modeling:

I get a lot of presets from there and those guys (mostly foreigners) are really into IMPULSE RESPONSES, etc. I just got the BEST David Gilmour presets for GR 3 I ever heard from there. The Comfortably Numb one is AMAZING:

Listen to this kid (Spotswood) NAIL the Comfortably Numb solo - and grab the preset too if you're using Guitar Rig 3.
