Problems With Presonus Firestudio

I am having problems with compatability with my brand new Presonus Firestudio recording interface and Logic pro 8. I am new to logic but not to home recording, and i cant understand what might be the problem. When i use the firestudio with garageband it works easily. In the garageband sound preferences there are input AND output channels that the user can define. (i.e. you can set your input channels to come from the firestudio while the output channels go to the computer speakers or headphone jacks or whatever you define it as).
From what i have seen in logic, there is only one option for your audio settings. when in preferences and under audio, there is a "device" setting in which you can define your audio device. Wheather this is input AND output for the program, i do not know. but the problem i am experiencing is that whenever i choose the firepod as the input device, no sound from logic will play from the speakers whatsoever. My first thought was that maybe ouput was going straight to the firestudio, but after plugging headphones into it this also did not work. Has anyone had success getting their firestudio to work in logic? if so let me know what settings you had to use, and how you got to moniter your input from from the firestudio via your computer.

p.s.
another WIERD problem i have run into, is that if i shut off the firestudio while logic is open, alot of times it will shut down my whole computer. i have never heard of this happening. what am i doing wrong?

thanks!

I have the presonus FP-10
It does the same thing from time to time. When I first boot the MAC (I shut it down everyday), I have to go into the AUDIO/MIDI Setup (located in Applications/Utilities) and change the sample rate. i change it 48, let it do its thing (you should see the firewire light on the Firepod turn red, then blue again)then change it back. It should then start producing sound. If you want to get the output to your omputer speakers, you need to create an aggregate device consisting of both the presonus AND the built in speakers. I have this setup sometimes. i actually send the click track out to the headphone out of the MAC so our drummer has it in his ears, and not in ours.

This is a known issue with the firepods as far as having to kick start it.

I put the Adio/Midi setup app on my dock for ease of getting to it.

Hope this helps.

I have Firebox and it's working perfectly for me. In fact, it's working better now than it did with Logic 7 Pro. Occasionally before I had to disconnect and reconnect the Firewire cord because it would boot up with an unacceptable latency which was fixed by that disconnect/reconnect procedure. Since getting Logic 8 I have had none of those problems. Not sure what's causing your problems.

ah, I was hoping to find my solution here, but alas the thread is gone...

I recently bought a Macbook running Leopard, and am having difficulties with my PreSonus Firestudio Project thru Logic and Mainstage. I can get audio input and output just fine, but there's a ton of distortion/crackle. Kickstarting the sample rate seems to clear it up for a minute or two, but then the crackle comes back. The recorded tracks sound clean if I unplug the Firestudio, so apparently it's only in the monitoring stage?

On the PreSonus board, they're claiming it's Apple who needs to update drivers for Leopard; PreSonus says the "Firestudio Project is Leopard compatible."

still searching for some answers...

I had the same problem the other week with Tiger, things were going just fine, out of the blue the drivers crap out, it played, latency fine, distorted as heck though.

So I installed Leopard but did something different, I'm using time machine, so my theory, if this happens again, I can just restore an earlier version and use those drivers.

I guess what's more odd is that it just crapped out, I didn't instal anything etc...I was reading on the presonus boards that if you start plugging things in while the Firestudio is turned on, that can create a bit of a, what's the best word to use, surge, so maybe that is what craps out the drivers? I don't know, that's a theory at best (and a weak one).

If the time machine idea doesn't work, I'll just reinstal it.

i got even worst problems, cause now my G5 will not boot at all because of the driver on the Firestudio Project causing a bad boot (not sure if really that's the cause - but i try the computer in the shop after maintenance, it boots perfectly without the Firestudio project ) soon i connect it ot my computer back to the studio, it's a nightmare, making my system shutdown and almost imposiible to restart), in three weeks i have been able to use it for four days. Dispite that i can say it has a good quality audio. I have email the reseller to see if i can exchange it agains another brand, but i doubt it will accept. ANYWAY< A TOTAL LOSS FOR ME MONEY AND TIME. And have to find a new audio interface, among the same range of the Firestudio, without all the troubles this audio interface gives me. Any suggestion ?

Denis.
