Incase Sleeve (Black) staining macbook...

I recently bought the Incase Neoprene Sleeve for 13-inch (Black) from the online apple store but i have heard some reports regarding staining to the white macbook which i bought recently also. Like most new macbook users, i want to make sure that it stays as beautiful as possible for as long as possible but i'm not sure if this new sleeve that i bought will turn my macbook black/purple or not.
Does anyone know of this issue? If so, any possible solutions to the problem? I haven't used it yet so i read from the reviews at the apple store about someone who washed the case to get rid of any excess dye present but i'm hesitant...
If there's anything anyone knows that might be able to give me some information i would really appreiate it.
Cheers
Tim

I have the case that comes with two handles on it and a shoulder strap, and yes, I have experienced this "staining" on my white MacBook. That's actually how I found this thread, I was searching to see if anyone else had experienced this issue. I'm kind of disappointed with Incase because I previously had a very similar case from them for my older 12" PowerBook G4 (the case with the bright green interior) and loved it.

This new one with the black interior leaves a very faint darkening on the case of the MacBook. I haven't experimented with trying to clean it yet, but the discoloring doesn't respond to rubbing it with my finger or my t-shirt. :-\

i have noticed that the black felt-like interior of my protective case "sheds" and leaves tiny particulates on my clear keyboard protector. it does not harm, but is quite annoying... as for preventing your white MacBook from getting stained, you might want to consider the various clear plastic shells/protective cases that are available for your MacBook. Speck makes a nice one (i have one of those around my white MacBook) and will keep the exterior of your MacBook stain/scratch free for as long as you own it! You can get a variety of other cheaper/less expensive shells on eBay, just make sure you avoid getting the ones that have a cut-out for the Apple logo as it will allow dust, link, particulates to accumulate around/in the cut-out. While you're at it, if you really want to keep your MacBook looking nice, get yourself a trackpad protector as constant use will leave a discoloring in the center of the trackpad... and get a full-length keyboard protector to also protect then wrist-rest area from the common discoloring that can also occur. if you need help finding those items, let me know, as i have added a few of those sellers to my "favorite sellers". i just bought the new 2.2GHz Santa Rosa MacBook (MB062LL/B) and plan on getting a screen protector as well as new neoprene case (but with a light green or grey interior so the particulates/link does contrast so much!). yeah,i baby my MacBooks... but they in turn have treated me VERY well! hope some of this helps!

Hey Timmie.

I bought the same case as you when i first got my MacBook.
I read all the reviews on the apple site for it before i took full consideration on buying it.

The reviews for it were all outstanding, however there were a few saying that it stains the white MacBooks with blackish yellow marks.
At first i just thought it was because of how they didn't take care of their cases and got the inside dirty. So then i went ahead buying the case.
but really like you have mentioned after a certain amount of time in use.

My Macbook edges and corners have black marks on it.
On the reviews some say to use a clean white easer to rub away the marks and it has worked, but for me as i tried it only scratched the casing. I'm still very disappointed with the incase but it seems that after i have washed it a few times, it stops giving me the marks, however the first marks are still on my macbook.

So try throwing it into the washer a few times to wash and hang it completely dry for a few days.

and then see what happens. If you do bring the case to the Apple Store(if you bought it from them) they would tell you they never heard of such thing and either only will exchange for the same one back for you.

Hope this helps.

Thanks for all the insight...

I don't think that there are any apple stores in Australia, just resellers and apple.com.au (where i bought it from), but i just can't understand why apple would resell this product knowing that it causes this issue. I doubt very much that they haven't heard anything like this happening before, no matter what they say.
I understand what you're saying, flynsqrls, with buying all the protection and stuff, but i don't wanna have to buy more products to protect my macbook from its protective sleeve. I mean, the sleeve is suppose to protect it...
I also read a little bit of incase's warranty policy on their website. I remember reading that the policy doesn't cover issues arising from the sleeve affecting other products, just issues that affect the sleeve itself; even if the sleeve is sold to be used with the macbook (********!!!). Does anyone know if apple's warranty covers this issue? I mean, because they sell them for the macbook and everything.

I still haven't used the sleeve with my macbook yet (haven't moved it) but i think that i will wash it a few times like is suggested and try it out then. Seems a bit of a hassle really, but I'm sure that after it's all ready to use (after washing) it will be a great product... i hope anyway 🙂 . I'll keep posted on the results.

I have had the Sleeve for a good few months now and have been sing it regularly. For obvious reasons I have avoided getting in rained on etc, but I haven't come across any black-mark issues which is great so I would have to say at this point that the whole washing thing works.

Thanks all and hope this helps anyone else with the same problem.

The Targus CVR200-10 is made of neoprene wetsuit-like material with a nylon taffeta lined interior and a single exterior flap compartment. The case is a zippered top-loader styled like so-called sleeves.

It is isn't ultra stylish but it serves the purpose of transporting the computer without getting the computer destroyed... and doesn't discolor the computer.
