Epson R220 & Leopard "Print CD Program"

I just installed Leopard my Mac Pro, But I am having problems printing directly on CD's with my EPSON R220 Printer. I am using Epson's "Print CD" and Roxio/Toast "Disc Cover RE" and everytime i go to print I get the following message:

"The EPSON print driver dealing with CD printing is not installed."

Does anyone have that problem? Am i out of luck until Epson resolved the problem with a new driver?

You helped me discover a work around that worked for me....

I followed your instructions and it then gave a new error message that I needed to increase the memory size for the application. I went back, deleted the printer again and added it in, but this time I selected the KIND without the "Gutenberg". I still get the stupid initial error message about the driver, but I press ahead and select manual print, select the paper size A4 (CD/DVD) from off the A4 > option, and print... and indeed it does. Not as simple as it used to be, but at least it is printing! Sigh! Half a day wasted!

Thank you!

I just got an email from Epson with the following. I followed the instructions and things are now working with no issues. I'm using an R1800 with 1.3.1E of Epson PrintCD.

Thank you for taking the time to contact Epson. It is my pleasure to respond to your inquiry.

You need to download and install the latest Epson EasyPrint software and reset the Epson Print CD software to recognize your Epson printer and driver. Follow the steps below:

Download and Install Epson EasyPrint
1. Go to http://www.epson.com/support.

2. Select your Epson Printer or All-in-One model.

3. Click on Drivers & Downloads.

4. Download Epson EasyPrint under Macintosh Operating Systems.

5. Double-click the downloaded file, then double-click the Installer
file and follow the on-screen instructions to complete the
installation.

Reset the Printing System and Epson Print CD’s Printer Selection

Note: Resetting the printing system will remove all installed printer drivers. You’ll need to reinstall any printer drivers that you still need after resetting.

1. Quit Epson Print CD if it’s open.

2. Disconnect the printer’s USB cable.

3. From the Apple menu, select System Preferences.

4. Click Print & Fax.

5. If necessary, click once on your printer’s name in the Printer list.
(You don’t need to do this if only one printer driver is installed).

If you see Gutenprint next to your printer name, the incorrect
driver is installed and you’ll need to continue with step 6 to
install the correct driver. If you don’t see Gutenprint next to your
printer name, skip to step 9.

(The Epson Stylus Photo RX620 appears in the example below, but
you’ll see your printer or all-in-one name instead).

6. Go to http://www.epson.com/leopard and select your Epson Printer or
All-in-One model from the appropriate list.

7. After selecting your Printer or All-in-One, the web page will either
inform you that the driver for your model is included in Mac OS X
10.5 or give you a description and download option for an Epson
driver for your printer.

8. If the driver for your model is included in Mac OS X 10.5, continue
with the next step. Otherwise, download and install the Epson driver
for Mac OS X 10.5 before continuing with step 9.

9. In the Print & Fax window, hold down the Control key and click on
any area in the Printers section. A pop-up menu appears. Select
Resetting printing system… and click OK to confirm the process. Do
not reinstall any printers yet.

(Embedded image moved to file: pic28145.gif)

10. Open Epson Print CD. With no printers installed, Epson Print
CD will reset its printer information and you may see an error
message that no printer was found. (If you do, click OK or Cancel to
close the message.)

11. Close Epson Print CD.

12. Make sure the printer is turned on and reconnect the printer’s
USB cable. The printer should automatically be added to the Print &
Fax window. Verify that the driver does not say Gutenprint.

If the printer driver for your model still shows Gutenprint next to
the printer name, contact Apple for assistance. You may need to
reinstall the Epson drivers provided with Leopard.

13. Open Epson Print CD again. The software will update itself
with the correct printer information and this process may take
several minutes. Try printing a CD once it is complete.

I had the same problem with my Epson RX585 and the Epson Print CD app not working at all with Leopard. It appears that Epson has not updated it's drivers to work with Leopard. Since I need to print on CD's and DVD's for my work, I actually had to downgrade back to Tiger in order to get it to work.

I wish Epson/Apple would have dealt with this sooner. Now I can't make fun of Windoze users who downgraded from Vista to XP anymore.

After 5 rounds of ridiculous, unhelpful email responses via Epson's web tech support, I finally called and got someone on the phone who helped with a workaround.

She told me that there is an issue with printing on CD's from Intel based Macs.

1. Open the Epson Print CD application.
2. With your chosen disc artwork ready for printing, select File > Print.
3. See the error message, "The Epson printer driver dealing with CD printing is not installed."
4. Click OK.
5. The print dialogue box opens. Click "Manual Print" in the top right corner.
6. The Page Setup dialogue box opens. In the Format dropdown, select the Epson printer. In the paper size dropdown, select A4. Click OK.
7. The print dialogue box opens. In the Layout dropdown, select "Print Settings," and in the Media type dropdown, select CD/DVD.
8. Cross your fingers and click "print."

It's a bit convoluted, but it did work for me.

I was just fooling around with the Print CD function because I didn't have anything better to do. I followed Eric's suggestions as well as other suggestions and still couldn't get it to work. I followed Eric's suggestions again and just out of curiousity, I pulled down the Edit menu, there's the Select Twain Source. I clicked on it and the Import from Twain Source was highlighted. I hit print and lo and behold, it worked Canon Lide 80 scanner, Epson Stylus Photo RX580 printer)

slopez's solution worked for me with my MacBook Pro/Leopard 10.5.2/Epson Photo R230, but only after much screwing around with various preferences. Be warned: it does not work if you have your printer connected via an Airport (and neither does the Epson Printer Utility).

FWIW, the solution on the Epson site which involves resetting the printer and booting Epson Print CD and quitting it again did not work for me, and I made sure I followed the instructions to the letter. Once I'd done the whole thing, I simply got the same 'Epson CD drivers not installed' message that I started with.

I've had this problem with different macs for the past few years..

In order to print directly to a CD, I've had to fire up my original Bondi Blue iMac to do so.
So Slow.

I finally found the solutions that work

go here for the instructions from epson
http://www.epson.com/cgi-bin/Store/support/supAdvice.jsp?type=highlights&noteoid =94207

I am running 10.4.11 and even though the preference pane looks different, it worked.

I also opened the printer cd tray cover after restarting my printer.
I also(maybe most importantly)went to the Russian Epson website for the
Driver. They also have the Epson Print CD utility for download (the US site doesn't offer this, but you can purchase a replacement Install CD for $11.00)
It's in Russian, but the important information is in English. Your system will change the install to English automatically too.

After deleting your printer, restarting the printer (you cannot just unplug the usb cable, you have to turn it off and then back on) and adding the printer again in system Preferences, let it find the new driver.
Then after opening the Epson Print CD program, run 'update printer information' under the 'file' menu at the top of the screen. It should take some time for it to update. If it takes only a second, it didn't work and you might have missed a step, so you might have to start over.

Good Luck

I have an R800 Epson with CD printing capability. With Tiger, worked fine with Epson Print CD v 1.2.0a. Upgraded to Leopard and there is no separate driver for manual feed for the CD/DVD. However, in Page Setup, I set to US Letter (manual feed). Go to Print and Epson Print CD will be shown below the number of pages. Select Print Settings under that menu list. This will show that Page Setup is now set to CD/DVD. Change the Plain Paper item to CD/DVD or Premium CD/DVD and click Print. This worked for me. No software upgrade needed.

Don't forget to load the tray and hit the page button on the printer prior to printing the CD.

Hello

I have an Epson r220 that most of the use is printing on DVD's I am operating this printer on an imac g5 that I updated to leopard.

The only problem that I am having is the printer is not centering on the dvd'. so the print is off to the left and top.

I had no problem with tiger.

Everthing else operates on the printer, paper and photos. I do not use this printer for photos but tried an 8x10 and 4x6 printing through CS2 and everthing is aligned properly and prints correctly.

After talking to the high level tech they came to the conclusion that there is not a proper driver from epson for this printer to operate correctly on a leopard.

I cleaned the white marers on the dvd slide tray as they thought the optical sensor might have read this wrong

I also went through all the trashing and uninstalled reinstalled software drivers from epson and ir will not center. When trying to reset the adjustment in the manual print screen it will not change from the same position when printing. I have went to all four extremes to the left.right, top and bottom but the printer will only print the same offset.

I have ordered a refurbished r260 and epson says they have the leopard driver.

This printer is just used to print dvds so maybe there is something wrong with the printer its self. The tech has tried everything possible. If any one out there has a problem with printing on dvd's off center I would like to hear from you.

I know this is a cheap printer but thats all i need for printing on disks as I use my hif=gh end printers for photographs

Thank You

Dick
