Printing on 4x6 (tab) paper

I am trying to print a 2x3 picture onto 4x6 tabbed photo paper. My HP printer has a tray for it. I can print the 2x3 size with no problem, but it keeps printing on regular letter size paper. How do I fix this?

Hi,
I'm just starting on this issue like you so I haven't called Apple or HP support yet. I have a HP Photosmart C5180 printer and if I use the "HP Photosmart Studio" software that came with the printer then it recognizes that I have a photo tray and uses that for smaller sizes of photo paper. BUT... if I use "Preview" or iPhoto then it creates print images of the right size but it only uses the lower regular paper tray and neither application gives the option to use a photo tray. I thought the OS was only using one printer driver, not two. Have you had any luck fixing this?

HP Photosmart 3210, 3310, C6180, and C7180 All-in-Ones - Loading and Printing on 10 x 15 cm (4 x 6 inch) Photo Paper From the Photo Tray in Mac OS

Introduction
This document provides instructions for printing 4 x 6 photos and allows the customer to save this as a preset for easy printing of 4 x 6 photos in the future.
Loading and printing on 10 x 15 cm (4 x 6 inch) photo paper from the photo tray in Mac OS
Step one: Load the 10 x 15 cm (4 x 6 inch) photo paper
Raise the output tray until it goes no further.
Pull out the photo tray.
Insert the stack of photo paper into the photo tray with the short edge forward and the glossy side down. Slide the stack of photo paper forward until it stops. If the photo paper you are using has perforated tabs, load the photo paper so that the tabs are closest to you.
Slide the paper-length and paper-width guides inward against the stack of photo paper until the guides stop. Do not overload the photo tray; make sure the stack of photo paper fits within the photo tray and is no higher than the top of the paper-width guide.
Push in the photo tray, and then lower the output tray.
Step two: Print with 10 x 15 cm (4 x 6 inch) photo paper
Click the photo to highlight it.
Click on the Printer icon at bottom of box.
Check to make sure the HP printer is listed.
Under Style , choose Full Page .
Click Advance .
Under Copys and Pages , choose Paper Handling .
Click scale to fit paper size and then choose 4 x 6 borderless .
Under Paper Handling , choose Paper Type and Quality .
In Paper Type , click HP Photo Paper .
Choose Paper Tray as the source.
Under Presets , click on Save only , give the file a name (for example: 4 x 6 photo), and click OK . This will give you a one click recall when you want to print a photo in the future.
Click Print at the bottom of the box.
These steps will print a 4 x 6 photo from the photo tray when you want to print a picture.

hope this helps.

Welcome to the Apple Discussions. See this thread regarding an HP multi function printer. It was a rather bizarre solution but it might work for you: http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1374604&tstart=0

TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto (iPhoto.Library for iPhoto 5 and earlier) database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 6 and 7 libraries and Tiger and Leopard. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.
