Blueberry iBook questions...

My brother just donated his old Blueberry iBook to my classroom. I have to keep it plugged in to run it (I'll look for a replacement battery soon), it's only got OS 8.6 and I can't get any sound out of the speakers. My questions: it's been awhile since I updated out of OS8 up to OS9. I have a 9.2.1 CD-can I upgrade directly to this? And has anyone heard of the speaker(s) failing? They or it makes no sound at all (not even rattling sounds like my daughter's iMac speakers that are blown). Thanks....

Hello,

I'm not so sure about the OS 9 upgrade, i've been having a horrible time lately installing OS 9 on any machine, lol. With regards to the speakers though, when i bought my ibook clamshell, it had OS 9 on it, and for some reason i never got sound out of the speaker. I didn't have a chance to figure out why as i installed Panther as soon as i verified the firmware. (I really don't like OS 9) When i booted into OS X, the speakers worked.

Just thought i'd throw that in there.

Also, i'd recommend putting OS X on the ibook if you have some install CD's laying around. Although OS 9 is less demanding resource wise, you'll find more application support in OS X, and i've found that the entire OS X experience is much nicer.

Cheers
Vince
