I've taken down my review pending resolution of the screen protector issue. The more I used mine the more apparent the difficulties reported were. My scrren protector actually worked fine but I can definitely see that if it were glued in to tight then it would effect useability. I am going to experiment on mine by not only removing the screen pretector but the whole lip surrounding it.
yeah...well better to be safe than lead people astray, it really is a nice case but If people were having trouble with there screen then you can't ignore that...it is to important.
I'd like to defend Scott (and OtterBox) a bit. This case is not some piece of junk like this thread now seems to suggest. In some ways I still think this is the best case you can buy... especially for protection. The quality is top notch (and that's hard to find these days), the pieces fit together perfectly (and I'm a perfectionist), it feels great in your hand, and it is the only case on the market where I truly feel safe just throwing my iPod in a bag or a pocket. I just feel that it was a very poor decision to make the screen protector work the way it does. If it was a regular iPod, it wouldn't be a big deal, but because
everything on the Touch is controlled via the touchscreen, it needs to work unhindered.
Also note that I'm not at all easy to please. The OtterBox was my third case (the fourth is on its way), and I've only had the iPod for 3 weeks. So at this point I really can't say that I'll be truly happy with any of them. They all seem to have their plusses and minuses.
So I'm not really trying to sway anyone away from buying one. It's just that it's a shame that in this day and age that it's getting so hard to find things in stores that it's almost impossible to try things before you buy. But I will say that if I had the chance to try it before I bought it, I probably wouldn't have bought an OtterBox.

Yeah, I would not claim its junk. As I said it seems the most protective case on the market right now.
But the need for the screen protector to be flat against the screen is a must. I understand why they needed to seal it since it would keep debris out but if the issues owners have reported affect even a quarter of buyers then the gap between the screen needs to be addressed. I am glad Scott began the thread and I hope he keeps his review up with the addendum that some people have issues but the case is otherwise solid. Its the only real review for the Otterbox Defener I have seen and some feedback is better than none.
I am going to look into the Contour Showcase in the meantime.
It seems a good compromise between the iClear and the Defender. Even if the price Contour posted is a little out of line given the other cases out there.
My name is Kristin Golliher and I handle the Public Relations for OtterBox. First, I want to say that we always appreciate comments and feedback. It’s these forums and discussions that help us to make the best products available. Secondly, thank you to Scott Bass for the review, we definitely appreciate the 10 out of 10 rating and we’re happy you are pleased with your product.
I wanted to address some of the concerns in the posts above:
• As for the screen, it is clear. As mentioned above one must remove the protective film before use.
• The clear membrane over the screen does provide protection from drops and scratches as well as dust and dirt, it is just another layer of protection between your touch screen and the elements. With that being said, since it is an “extra layer,” one may have to press slightly harder to activate the screen. It SHOULD NOT be difficult however. So far we have not heard issues of people not being able to use their device through the case.
• OtterBox guarantees products 100%, something few companies offer. If orders are placed through us we guarantee a replacement product or money back. If it is through one of our resellers we can replace the product or send customers a product equal to the dollar value of the product they wish to replace.
• Also, we don’t take customer concerns lightly. After discovering this forum and receiving your phone call yesterday (Ekonarske) our customer service representative contacted our engineering department to determine how to replicate this problem in-house. After testing, we’ve determined that really it just requires a slight amount of pressure to activate the screen and turning of the finger to reach keys around the edges. However, it is still functional and not a design flaw. It really just depends on the amount of protection desired. For most of our customers, they are thrilled with the new Defender™ Series line and its sleek, slim design. Plus, OtterBox has always been recognized for the excellent protection our cases provide and this model does just that! For even more protection customers can check out the fully rugged Armor™ Series.
Again, we always appreciate comments and feedback and we understand that our cases aren’t for everyone. However, we do want people to know that we really put time and effort into our products to make the best cases on the market.
PS—please check out the photos on our website, this one in the review is a rendering and not fully representative of what the case looks like.
Thank you,
