Photoshop locked in Leopard and unable to unlock

Since upgrade to leopard I have been having issues opening files and applications, as they are locked. I go to the "Get Info" command in the finder and unlock the file using password etc. I do this by clicking on the padlock and after using my password the padlock opens, then when I go to open PS3 it says it is locked and when I go back in the padlock is locked again....Anyone have any idea how I can unlock this so I can use PS3 and Bridge.
BTW, I was able to open Bridge, but it crashed and now it is locked and I cannot unlock it......
Many thanks.

All should need to do is bring up the GetInfo window then look in the General section at the top of the GetInfo window. At the bottom of the General section there should be a box in front of an entry for "Locked"--if the box is checked, click on it to uncheck it. That should do it. If not, there is a Terminal command you can use:

chflags nouchg /Applications/Adobe\ Photoshop\ Elements\ 3/Photoshop\ Elements\ 3.app

The above presumes Elements is in your regular Applications folder. You can copy and paste the above into the Terminal, then hit return.

Sheree:

Check several files in your home folder to see if they are locked also. If it's just the image file in one folder download and run BatChmod on the folder with the settings shown here, putting your administrator login name, long or short, in the owner, staff or whatever is the current group in the group section. Then check the unlock box and the Apply ownership and privileges box. You can either type in the path to the folder or just drag the folder into that field.

See if that will keep those files unlocked.

BatChmod is very old, and my experience with it in Leopard and doing things recursively was not entirely successful. You could try this in Terminal--launch Terminal, then type this:

chflags

hit the spacebar, then type

-R

hit the spacebar and type

nouchg

hit the spacebar and then drag your copy of the Adobe Photoshop folder into the Terminal and drop it. The finished command should look something like this:

chflags -R nouchg /Applications/Adobe\ Photoshop\ CS

(I have CS1, I suppose yours would end with CS3). Then hit the Return key.

Many thanks, Francine. I have tried that, it did not appear to do anything, however did not get an error message. I will reboot and try again tonight.
Any other thoughts? I have sent a message to Adobe as well, and also was on line with the developer of BatChmod...however I realised that his programme would not work as it changes privileges and nothing is wrong with the privileges, per se....the application itself is locked. All the privileges are correct. I did try to uninstall and reinstall, but with no luck. I can't believe this is happening, I am a photographer and have been unable to do anything since upgrade to Leopard. I am not thinking of rolling back to Tiger, but if you have any further thoughts would appreciate them.
Thanks!

Just EXACTLY what do you mean by "the applications itself is locked"? Do mean that when you do GetInfo on:

"/Applications/Adobe Photoshop CS/Adobe Photoshop CS.app"

there is a check mark in the GetInfo panel? And a lock icon on the application? In other words, does it look like this:

http://homepage.mac.com/francines/.Public/locked.jpg

If it does, what happens when you click the box in front of locked? Actually, if the permissions show that you are the owner, and the group is staff, you shouldn't even have to click the padlock at the bottom. I can lock and unlock the application just by clicking on the box. If you can't, it makes me wonder just EXACTLY how you upgraded to Leopard. There can be a raft of very technical ownership/group problems, depending on what you did.

The application is not locked when you do GetInfo.....
It is only when I go to open it that I get the following:
"Could not initialize Photoshop because the file is locked. Use the "Get Info" command in the Finder to unlock the file"
Yet the file is not locked...there is no check in mark in the GetInfo panel...or a lock icon on the application.
I was running 10.4.9 then put the Leopard install disc in and installed. There were no errors, everything appeared to work fine.

What about rolling back to Tiger and trying again?

If you think that might work, how would I do this most effectively?
Thanks,

Did you look in the User/Library/Application Support/Adobe file for any locked files/folders and in the User/Library/Adobe folder? There are a lot of files/folder in the User/Library/Preferences folder that are associated with Photoshop. Check there also. Also there's a folder titled ScriptingAdditions in the HD/Library folder that PS uses.

If you try a reinstall again delete those folders and files beforehand so you can start out fresh.
