Are you happy with your AT & T service?

I'm just doing a bit of research before I open and activate my new iPhone, which my wife gave me for my birthday (woot!). Before I sign up for a two-year plan with AT & T, I was wondering what the experience of actual iPhone users is with AT & T. I was curious about things like coverage, customer service, and internet access over their EDGE network. My coverage area is the SF East Bay.
Thanks, and Happy Holidays!

Am I happy with ATT?
No! Absolutely not! ATT is in my opinion and experience one of the worst service companies I have ever had the misfortune of doing business with and would like to see nothing less that it to be bought out and have every one of its assets liquidated.
I cannot believe their continuous policy of conscientious lies and deceit regarding issues with their service.
They take no responsibility for their own technical issues and seem completely ignorant of anything and everything regarding how the iPhone works.

Do whatever you can to circumvent the contract with ATT. What's unfortunate is that the iPhone is really everything it's hyped up to be, and with fixable bugs in the OS and glitches with firmware updates aside, it's only REAL flaw in my view is the ball and chain of a horrible service provider it's shackled to.

I think I can put things into perspective though. With as much as I absolutely loathe ATT (as you can clearly see), I am so impressed with the iPhone that I am actually willing to stomach being in a contract with them... for now.

As with any carrier, every customer will have their own opinions based on their personal experiences, but I've been with AT&T/Cingular for 5 years now and have had no problems. I'm extremely pleased with my service and haven't had any major reception issues anywhere in the country that I've traveled. I'd recommend them even if the iPhone weren't a factor.

Needless to say I have no problems with the 2yr contract extension with iPhone activation. 🙂

raises hand against at and t.
poor service.
poor customer relations.
"closes down" at night, no 24/7 customer support.
online pre pay access shoddy.[was down last night].

i think there is a serious problem with the go phone/pay as you go plans...i got multiple charges that drained the account balance. couldn't get anyone at at and t to do anything about it.

Saxkat,

I am a little further east of you. I have used the iPhone extensively in the Sacramento area, and further north.

With the exception of some of the moderate areas having issues inside stucco, cinder block or metal structures, I have had good service overall.

Hope this helps,

My first cell phone was with Nextel, then Sprint, then Verizon, then Cingular/AT&T. I wasn't that impressed with Verizon's service at the time. I went with Verizon because they had a Windows Smartphone. Once Cingular was offered here, I switched. I've had less dropped calls with AT&T. I live in Virginia Beach and work in Norfolk. The coverage at my house isn't as strong as it is in downtown Norfolk, but I still always have a signal. I work on the 19th floor of our building, and I get an excellent signal.

When I've dealt with AT&T's customer service, I've been impressed. My old phone was the SMT5600, and it failed on my a few times (refurbished phone). They always overnighted me a replacement. Sometimes, it's who you talk to at the time. I was very happy when the iPhone came out on AT&T's network.
