crop 1080 video to 720p

crop 1080 video to 720p

I'm shooting my video in 1080i, but want to share online in HD via vimeo, which supports 720p. ( 1280 x 720 pixels)
I've tried just scaling.. but I'd like to compare what this looks like with cropping - i.e. cutting off 360 lines vertically - the trouble I'm having is I can't see any guide on the crop tool of what size the selection is in pixels ? Is there someway to see how large the selection is ? or to enter the window size numerically ?

The size of you output will be determined by the settings used to share or export the project. Whatever content you see in cropping or fitting the content is the way it will look relative to the size of your output dimensions. (I.e., if you fit the video or photos within the window aspect or crop to fill the screen, it will look the same relative to the final display you share/export.)

I think the OP assumes that if they take a 1080 video and crop it to exactly 720/1080 of the original and the export it at 720, there will be no scaling of the video.

There are several programs that will let you do such a crop. VisualHub is one.
