Yahoo Mail IMAP problem

hey

when i tried logging in to yahoo mail on my iphone....i get the following message

Cannot Get Mail
The user name or password for "imap.apple.mail.yahoo.com" is incorrect.

Is this a problem with yahoo itself or my iphone?
any solutions?

I'm sorry this didn't help, but that's how I fixed it and it's been working ever since. If you read, though, you'll see that different people have very different results. There is one individual that looses their Yahoo mail every time they use the browser on the phone ... now that makes no sense, yet he can reproduce it every time.

Does your mail work if you do NOT use push? Can you set it up and check manually?

Okay yes I have done push and I have manually tried to set up the account. I was on the phone with a product speacialist and he couldn't figure it out either. He had me try one of there test email account and it didn't work on yahoo. It did work for Gmail. This might explain that it is a yahoo problem. I don't see why it is so hard to fix this problem. If anyone is out there and still knows how to fix the problem let us know. Thanks.

Could it be location related? ( The network path to get to you ) I find it insane that you and I both have ( supposedly identical ) iphones, and I can get pushed yahoo email without a problem and you can't. And let me reiterate, I had the exact problem you are having, but I just kept trying until it worked ... and now it works ... solid. It's very strange.

How about this. Wait till there is a nice TV show that you like. Sit with your iphone and keep on re-entering the password/ have it fail/ re-enter etc ... while you watch TV. Maybe it's one of those things, that if you get in, you are in ... but it's some weird timing thing that blocks you 90% of the time.

Ok - this worked for me and I think it will work for you. When setting up the email account for yahoo on the iphone. Choose other (not yahoo) and pop tab setup. follow the instructions below and it should work fine.

Incoming Mail Server (POP3): plus.pop.mail.yahoo.com
Use SSL, port: 995

Outgoing Mail Server (SMTP): plus.smtp.mail.yahoo.com
Use SSL, port: 465, use authentication

Account Name/Username:
Email address: address@yahoo.com
Password: Your Yahoo! Mail password

I use Yahoo POP on my home account and about the time this all started Yahoo changed there servers for Plus mail. On the POP side I had to change my MS Outlook for it to get mail. Could Yahoo have changed the IMAP server and not bothered to tell apple so the set up in Iphone mail works right? I had to set my amil up under other and it works but it just sends the messages to the iphone it does not sync the Iphone with the mail server. So If I delete a message on the Iphone it is still on the server. Very frustrating when you are deleteing spam and have to deal with it twice.

Worked for me all the wat through jailbroken 1.1.3. Now, restored to 1.1.4, jailbroke, restored settings etc., now doesn't work, no matter what. Just get invalid password message. When I type the password, it comes up saying "checking", then says "authenticated" with a check box, but as soon as I try to recieve mail, here comes the prompt.... Worked fine last week....

I had the same issues with my Yahoo account, but finally fixed it. My phone account is with AT&T which has a bearing on solution. I also have basic (free) Yahoo rather than Plus version.

-Deleted Yahoo account
-Created new account via Other option, (this allows access to more fields than wizard option)
-filled in the usual user id....password etc that matched my yahoo login.
-Under IMAP tab set *Host Name* under *Incoming Mail Server* to,
imap.apple.mail.yahoo.com
Under *Outgoing Mail Server*, in *Host Name field* set it to,
cwmx.com
That's it.
Hope that helps.
