This started saturday. I went to sync my Ipod Classic 80GB and it came up "USB Device Not Recognized". I did the 5r's and still nothing. I've even talked to apple and still nothing. I wont' even charge. I tried it on two other computers and it recognized it. I know it must be something with my compter then, but what could it be. Other USB devices work and I even took them out one by one to see if there was any conflict. CAN ANYONE HELP ME!!!
For what it's worth, I have the EXACT same problem. My iPod Classic started exhibiting that behavior right after I got ty iPod Touch and synched it with iTunes. Now my classic wont do anything on my computer - it won't even charge. Does Apple help...NO!... they don't give a ****, they have my money.
Good luck ... Think I am going to get rid of iPods and go to Zune.
Dudes.
I have an advice.
Try with another USB CABLE and not the one that CAME with the iPod. ( that, if you have a spare one from an older iPod).
I personally think that apple is selling broken USB cables with new ipods.
Ok here is what I did. Out of everthing I did this is the one thing I didn't do. UNPLUG THE TOWER FROM SERGE PROTECTOR OR FROM THE BACK OF THE UNIT. I don't know how long because I did it this morning and then did some christmas shopping came home and fell asleep. I'm not suggesting going shopping fixes this (although it took my mind off it) but you know what I mean.
I came to this conclusion mainly because if i stretch the cable while connected it disconnects. I am going to test with another ipod USB cable today and if it works you'll have to give me a cookie when I'll come to London :P
the company i work for bought like 20 of them, and I'm pretty sure most of them have this problem. If you look on the topics around here a lot of people have the same problems with ipod classics. itunes freezes or doesn't work at all.
Update: i got another cable and tried with it but no luck. I come to the conclusion that the USB port in the ipod is broken. Sometimes under windows XP it links with my laptop in USB 1.1 ( Windows says that the device supports higher speeds but the port doesn't , altho it does too ). When it links in 1.1 then it works flawlessly but at USB 1.1 speed ( ~1.2 MB/s ) which is rather gay.
I don't know what to think or do anymore... if you have any other suggestions ... feel free.
I've had the same problem as kirk1015B for a week with my 5th generation ipod. I've tried every suggestion in this string and still no solution. I've even deleted the UpperFilters registry and LowerFilters registry as suggested by Microsoft. My son's iPod mini is recognized. I've tried my 5th Gen on four different computers on all available USB ports and with 3 different synch cables and nothing works.
i got an 80gb classic and windows or itunes doesnt recognise it. i've tried swapping cables, unpating windows and reinstalling itunes but nothing will work. its funny though because my ipod nano (2nd gen) seems to be working fine on it. so, my mums investing in a macbook for me =] but its still annoying me anyway. and i thought i was the only one with this problem!
I hope your new Mac help. Here's what I found out. I took my iPod to a local Mac Superstore and they said they've seen this problem once before and the issue with the ipod circuit board logic. I'm out of warranty and out of luck.
