Windows XP and Itunes don't see Ipod

This started saturday. I went to sync my Ipod Classic 80GB and it came up "USB Device Not Recognized". I did the 5r's and still nothing. I've even talked to apple and still nothing. I wont' even charge. I tried it on two other computers and it recognized it. I know it must be something with my compter then, but what could it be. Other USB devices work and I even took them out one by one to see if there was any conflict. CAN ANYONE HELP ME!!!

My problem was that I couldn't get the PC to recognize my iPod. I had it plugged into the front of my PC using one of the available USB ports. Called Apple and the tech said to use a USB port in the rear of the PC. He said the rear USB ports have more power and as soon as I did the PC and the iPod recognized each other, setup was a snap. Had a ton of songs on Windows Media Player, transferred them to iTunes and the iPod sync'd and downloaded the songs. However, after I added more songs to the iTunes library and tried to have the iPod sync again to import those, it wouldn't. Had to restore the iPod to its original settings and then download all the songs. No big deal but just wondering why it won't simply download them to the iPod without having to restore it. Don't have to restore it to its original factory settings everytime, but now and then. Seems glitchy...anybody else have this problem? Any solutions?

I just received an 80gb iPod Classic for Christmas. It was working fine until today. When I plugged it into my computer, iTunes came up but it did not recognize my iPod. A message popped up on my computer saying "does not recognize USB Device". I've tried everything I can think of-reconnecting it, resetting it, restarting my computer, etc. Nothing has worked. Any advice?

Relieved to hear I'm not the only one with this problem with the 80gb classic, I Opened mine on xmas day and it worked ok for a few days then I got the problem as described (usb device not recognised) ... i Aso had the problem of it beind detected as a usb 1.1 device

the ipod played music and videos fine but windows wouldnt detect it so I couldn't sync it ... tried a factory reset (hold action and menu button for 10 seconds) this didn't make any difference, I then managed to get it into diagnostic mode by doing a factory reset, then holding the action button and the left arrow before the apple logo disappears ... after going through all the keypad diagnostics which passed windows again recognised the device, I then opened Itunes which recognised that the ipod had a serious error and offered to restore it back to its factory settings, which I did, I then also updated it to the latest software

again it worked fine for a few days and then I got the same error in windows xp again ... thinking the drivers might be corrupt on my PC I tried it on a different PC but with no luck, again got the same error

I don't think its acceptable to pay 160 quid for something that doesn't work properly so My Ipod is now back at Comet ... but because of their stupid policy I cannot get a replacement as it was bought more than 14 days before I took it back, even though it wasn't unboxed till christmas day!! so it looks like I'll be without it for a while,

I got the same freaking problem. I have tried unplugging the computer, restarting, resetting the ipod, etc. I even some of the steps from the microsoft website. My computer is less than 3 weeks old from Dell and my ipod is from X-mas. Is there a real solution that doesn't require me to unplug all my usb connections, shut down my computer, reset the ipod and then pray to the Apple gods that it might work? This really blows!!! If it won't work, than I'm off to Zune!!!

hi all,

i had the exact same problem just a few minutes ago. my ipod wasn't recognized or coming up in xp or in itunes but no error messages came up. i tried the five r's and it still didn't work. i tried lastly to update my itunes, and it worked, my ipod showed up in itunes. i just went under help, then "check for updates" and when it started to download, my ipod showed up in itunes. keep trying everyone and don't give up. i just got my ipod for xmas too like many of you.

Glad im not the only one with this problem. I have looked into it and have found that it must be an error with the itunes.

I have unistalled all ipod related software and restarted connected the ipod and it works as soon as i install itunes it laughs at me and gives me a code 10 error.

If any one has a solution please share it with us
