iPod repeatedly connects and disconnects to computer

Problem: When I plug the iPod into my computer, the iPod switches from Connected to Do Not Disconnect every few seconds. The computer keeps detecting a device and then losing it. The USB noise goes on and off and on... This means that I cannot even click on the iPod in windows explorer before it disappears again. I assume this must be a problem with Windows Vista compatibility.

The problem remains no matter which USB port I use.

My computer is able to read and write to normal usb drives.

I tested the iPod on a Windows XP machine and it works perfectly. The problem is I need it to work on my computer.

Please, I would appreciate any suggestions.

I agree. My connecting/disconnecting endless loop problems ended when I started to plug the iPod directly into the USB ports on the back of my iMac (more powered than the USBs on the keyboard). I also had the problem when I used an UNPOWERED USB multiport hub. When I use a POWERED USB hub (connected to an AC adaptor) the 3G nano also works fine.

I agree also. I just bought a powered USB hub and the problem is solved.

After 2 tech support calls, one repair send-out and a visit to the Apple store, where I got my first (engraved) iPod replaced becacuse I almost cried from frustration.

Do the Apple people know about this sensitivity? None of the tech support people mentioned it.

Thanks for the tip!
