Keyboard not working (8 i k , do not work)

Please can someone help there are some keys that are not working on my keyboard they are " 8, i, k, ,(comma)" as well as left and right arrow. This seems to be a software issue as sometimes they just start working again wthout any physical change. Does anyone know how to resolve this? I have had to copy and paste to get the missing keys to write this. I have found that sometimes when I hold down all of these keys at the same time they come back to life. Other times if i hold down shift and i it wont work but plain i (lowercase) will work. All this makes me think it's a software issue rather than something wrong with my keyboard. Thanks

I bought a MacBook Pro for my wife for Christmas and the "i" key did not function properly. It would work for a hard, solid hit but not for a light hit.

I took it to the Apple store and they agreed it was faulty. They ordered a new keyboard which is supposed to arrive in a couple of days. They told me it would take a day to fix once the keyboard arrived. We brought the MacBook back home so that she would not be without a computer in the interim.

A good way to confirm that the built in keyboard is faulty is to borrow an external keyboard and see if the external has the same problem as the internal. This could probably be done at an Apple Store if you don't have any other access to a keyboard.

If the external works fine and the built in does not, it would indicate a fault with the built in. The fact that all these keys are in a diagonal line or adjacent is suspicious to me--I would be inclined to suspect a hardware problem rather than a software one. If the external keyboard has the same problem, I would be more inclined to think there was a software problem.
