Shuffle won't connect, says it's corrupt

I just purchased a second gen shuffle, plugged in the dock and let it charge for about two hours. The orange light is still blinking, and I keep getting a message that says itunes has detected an ipod that appears to be corrupt. It says not to plug it into a keyboard, but I'm working with a laptop and so that shouldn't be the problem. And I've tried both USB ports? Restoring it doesn't work. I have the latest version of itunes. I can't think of what to do now. Not sure what to do next ... if someone could help that would be most appreciated.

Same Problem.
The help links on this site have NOT worked for me.

I have similar problem on an IMac G5(non-ISight), non-intel running OSX 10.5.1 and iTunes 7.5. Genius Bar plugged the (2nd Gen Shuffle) unit into their machines and it worked fine, told me to throw away the preference files for itunes and ipods. I did that, same "corrupt" messages.

message:
"iTunes has detected an iPod that appears to be corrupted. You may need to restore this iPod before it can be used with iTunes. You may also try disconnecting and reconnecting the iPod."

These are not solutions, nor are the 5R's.
Somebody please help.

I have the same message from iTunes saying that my ipod is corrupt.
I see that the orange light is flashing all the time, even if I click "eject" from iTunes.
also, I think that my computer see my ipod like an external disk or something, because when I open the Disk Utility application, my ipod appear. And if I "eject" my ipod from the Disk Utility, then the light came green.... is somebody have an answer for this phenomen???
I don't understand anything that append.. hope somedy can give us a response, because when I try to connect to the apple support, my safari quit...

I suppose I'm glad to hear I'm not the only one and I'm not just losing my mind. I tried the restore utility with no luck. It's still saying the the ipod appears to be corrupt. Try restoring it or disconnect and reconnect the ipod. I've done it all and nothing helps.

It is also just flashing yellow, no green and no indication that anythings changed.

What else can I try?

I will, but I'm afraid this is the only computer in my home, and the only computer that I keep my music on.

This is actually the second shuffle to do this, the first one I returned thinking it was a problem with the device. My itouch works perfectly, I just finished working on my father's nano, so it's not a problem with my computer either.

I just wanted something to take to the gym, but admit, I'm about to give up. But thank you for your help.

I was having the same issue with my 2nd Gen Shuffle. Plugged it in, iTunes said it was corrupt and to restore. Resolving nothing I took it back to the store to exchange it for another one. Same issue. After an hour on the phone with Apple tech support, their best advice was to send it in for replacement. Not really wanting to have a third shuffle not work (my 30 gig video works wonderfully), I decided to take a shot in the dark.

This afternoon I reinstalled OS X. Once that was done I ran the "iPod Reset Utility" and what do you know, the ****** thing works now. I don't know how, and I don't know why. I took the shuffle to the gym and it is fantastic. I have no idea if this will help anyone else, but it worked for me.

Good luck,

Ted

PS-My shuffle seems to take longer than the normal iPod to mount in the finder and iTunes. So have patience if it doesn't pop up right away.

I'm a bit surprised that you didn't just run the Reset Utility instead of going all the way to reinstalling OS X...which was unnecessry.

My niece received an ipod shuffle for christmas and asked me to set it up. I tried for days into the wee hours and was receiving the same message. I finally remembered that i had a USB hub for other devices I use and plugged it in. I got a message that said "this is a hi-speed device and if plugged into a non-Hi-Speed port it will reduce the connect time. It said to click on the port in bold letters and I did and was off and running in seconds. I hope this information works for you.
God bless.
