Shuffle won't connect, says it's corrupt

I just purchased a second gen shuffle, plugged in the dock and let it charge for about two hours. The orange light is still blinking, and I keep getting a message that says itunes has detected an ipod that appears to be corrupt. It says not to plug it into a keyboard, but I'm working with a laptop and so that shouldn't be the problem. And I've tried both USB ports? Restoring it doesn't work. I have the latest version of itunes. I can't think of what to do now. Not sure what to do next ... if someone could help that would be most appreciated.

ive had a similar problem, it took me ages for itunes to even read my shuffle, and now that it has it said it was corrupt and started on the restore thing, however its been going for an hour now, just with the same progress bar and no option to cancel it. is it supposed to be going this long? should i bite the bullet and disconnect my shuffle and try again?and help would be most welcomed 🙂

This afternoon I reinstalled OS X. Once that was done I ran the "iPod Reset Utility" and what do you know, the ****** thing works now. I don't know how, and I don't know why. I took the shuffle to the gym and it is fantastic. I have no idea if this will help anyone else, but it worked for me.

I'm a bit surprised that you didn't just run the Reset Utility instead of going all the way to reinstalling OS X...which was unnecessry.

I did run the reset utility prior to reinstalling the OS. It didn't fix whatever wasn't right.

I had the exact same problem with two different Shuffles: every time my iMac woke up from sleep he told me that the device is broken and needs to be reset. The Reset-Utility itself did not help.

I now fixed this by restoring the ipoddriver.kext file from the Library/Extensions-Folder using Time Machine from an earlier date a few weeks ago. You'll have to enter your Admin-PW because this is in the OS-Folder, not the User folder.
At first I copied this file from my Macbook Pro but that was a bad idea, nothing worked after that. So I went to the Time Machine and now everythings fine.

Is iPoddriver.kext a hidden file? I can't seem to find it. I'd love to know if that's the corrupt file that keeps getting trashed on my G5 tower where my music library resides. I'm on 10.4.11.

I have the same problem of my Shuffle 2G being corrupt after a week or 2 of reinstalling the entire OS which is a huge drag. What a PITA, to have to reinstall an entire OS for just a shuffle! And have it get corrupt again within a week or 2. I've reinstalled about 5 times now and most of the time just let it say it's corrupt and let it charge. But it is really under my skin.

Even if my G5 itunes says the shuffle is corrupt, the shuffle works fine on my 2 PB's, Aluminum iMac, and my MBP. So it's a corruption somewhere in iTunes.

Also, I don't have a problem with my iPhone, iPod 80GB Classic or my iPod 30GB Photo. But both of my 2G shuffle's have the same "corrupt" issue.

Driving me nuts! Any other suggestions out there? Or where I can find the iPoddriver.kext?

Thanks
