Sorting Podcasts

I am trying to find a way to sort podcasts. I subscribed to a Greek language course, but the order of the lessons is completely arbitrary, because it seems that I can only sort podcasts in iTunes by date, which is ridiculous. There must be another way to sort these. Now, as I listen to them, they go straight from lesson 1 to lesson 7 to lesson 2 to lesson 12. Any insight?

In iTunes, if you right-click on the column headers (podcast, release date, etc), there is a list of other sorting columns that you can add.

As far as the iPod goes, it can be stubborn. The iPod generally sorts things the way you have it in iTunes. But not always. If it doesn't pick up on the new sorting, you might have to delete them from the iPod and resync. I haven't tried, so hopefully someone else might have something to add.

Well, I deleted all my podcasts, re-sorted in iTunes, re-connected and re-synced, and the problem still exists - even thought the correct sort order is listed in iTunes (oldest podcast production dates at the top of each list), what appears on the iPod Classic is reversed.

You would think something this simple would work - I don't need color games when driving the car - I need to be able to quickly select items.

is anyone knows any secret way to sort, I'd love to hear it.

I have the same problem. I would like to sort my podcasts, oldest at the top, and have found no logical way of doing it.

If there is no way of doing this it is pretty sloppy coding on Apples part. They are pretty naive if they think people would not want to choose the sort method. If they can do it in iTunes they should be able to do it in iPod.

I am also curious if Apple service reads and answers problems on this form. Apple seems very good at selling things, but they seem pretty slow on answering problems. There seem to be lots of problems posted, but not that many fixes for anything but the logical.

Add my name to the list of users who would like the podcast sorting feature. I will frequently have multiple podcast episodes for certain podcasts, and would like the ability to listen to them in a "oldest to newest" order. Instead you have to manually select each individual podcast, instead of just selecting the first one and let it run through the rest in order.

This isn't a huge issue, but would certainly be a "nice to have". I keep hoping each iPod firmware update will include the feature, but alas, have not seen it yet.

The workaround is to create a Smart Playlist with somethin like this:
Artist, contains, <The name of your podcast Producer>
Podcast, is true,
You can check the Match Only Checked Items but be sure to check the Live Updating.

Once you have your Smart Playlist Add the Release Date to the Columns and sort them by Release Date. Newest First. This way you will have a Platlist in your iPod Sorted your way.

Hope it helps.

Setting up a smart list by podcast producer can be ****.. Humphrey Cammradella (or however it is spelled) produces a bunch of old time radio programs.. if you create a playlist based on their production name, you will end up with ALL of their shows being sorted into one playlist.

The only thing I have found is to created a standard playlist.. then drag each episode into the playlist in order that you want to hear them.. bottom up, in this case, so that when you click on the playlist to hear it, the podcasts will play in the order loaded into the list.. assuming you do not have shuffle active.

Total pita... and another notch against apple products in my book.

There used to be a Feedback link on the main page or under support but I cannot find it anymore.

However, go to http://www.apple.com/feedback/ then select your model of iPod and fill out the feedback form.

To make sure Apple sees podcast sorting on the iPod as a hot item their customers want, I suggest everyone use the subject of "Podcast Sorting Option on the iPod". This should go without saying, but, be sure to state exactly the feature you want and why in the comments section of the form and leave out the "your a bunch of idiots" message.

I would think Apple pays attention to the feedback form but then again they may only have one monkey manning the feedback "mailbox".

I seriously doubt Apple has staff to read the forums or is willing to pay anyone to provide support via the forums, which is rather a shame.
