Import photos from SD card into iPhoto

Santa gave my wife a new camera for Christmas and I am trying to load photos from the SD card using the SanDISK MicroMate (plugs into USB port) that came with the card. My daughter also got a camera, a Digital Blue Disney micro that uses a cable to attach to the USB port. Neither will show up in iPhoto, Image Capture, Windows Media Player, or in a finder window. Both do show up (with correct information as far as I can tell) in the Apple System Profiler. The Digital Blue website states that they do not have Mac software, but that Mac users can plug in to the USB and drag and drop as a "mass storage device". With our old camera, I used a compact flash (CF) with a compact flash reader that plugged into the USB port and never had any problems. The CF always showed up in iPhoto and the finder windows. Any ideas out there. I will probably be upgrading to a 2.4 GHz iMac soon, but would like to solve this before that happens. Thanks for your help.

The SanDisk website has a PDF owner's guide that says the following;

Macintosh Disk Icons: When you connect the MicroMate Reader/Writer on a Macintosh operating system, a removable disk icon labeled
“untitled” representing the MicroMate Reader/Writer will show on the desktop when a card is inserted.

It also has directions to drag the removable disk icon labeled “untitled” to the trash to remove the disk. There is also a support link to a ebox page on a secure site that won't let me go farther (I think I need a newer browser), so I can't find drivers.

My problem is that the icon doesn't show up and I can't find it in any applications I try. I know the Disney camera is a toy, its for my 5 year old, but I am having the identical problem with both the Disney camera and SanDisk.

I'm having the same problem. Both of my smartmedia cards won't show up on the desktop using a Zio reader. Also tried plugging it in directly to an Epson R380 but, it says there is no card. They both used to work fine, I also tried at the store using a Kodak machine to make sure it wasn't the Zio smartmedia reader. I thought there was something wrong with the camera because the pictures show up on it but no where else. Today I tried my brothers laptop which is running windows XP and they worked! Anyone have any ideas. The camera is a Olympus D490. I've got iPhoto 5, Thanks
