Unable to HotSync Palm using Bluetooth after upgrading to Leopard
After upgrading to Leopard I have been unable to HotSync my Palm Tungsten T5 using Bluetooth connectivity. When I try to do so I get the message "Unable to initiate HotSync operation because the port is in use by another application." Interestingly, the HotSync works fine when I use the Cradle/Cable option on the Palm, but this is not convenient. I have tried lots of different things; e.g. deleting the Palm from the list of Bluetooth devices and the pairing it again with the computer. That works fine, it is just the Bluetooth HotSync that fails. Advice welcome.
i'm having the same exact problem. the guy at the genius bar said its probably because palm software hasn't been updated since leopard came out, i guess its just gonna take time
Thank you for replying to my post. I solved my problem in the following way: Once I was able to add the Palm to my devices list on the Mac using Set up Bluetooth Device, I went to System Preferences on the Mac and click on Bluetooth, then I selected the Palm device, then I clicked on Advanced. In there, I noticed there were two Serial ports listed. One was the Bluetooth-PDA-Sync which I checked as "on", but another generic serial port was also listed. I deleted this second one using the negative sign at the bottom. Then I tried to HotSync again using the Palm and it worked perfectly. I hope this works for you.
I've been reading a lot about the problems with syncing Palm devices with Leopard. I wish I had done this before I bought a Palm TX.
People are saying that Palm is no longer supporting Mac. It was announced 4 years ago. I don't know where I've been. This is the first that I've heard it.
After trying and failing to sync via BT and WiFi, I started reading the Palm help forums. There isn't any help there either. What I find strange is that if Palm is no longer going to support Mac, why not just have it on it's website? And why continue selling devices to Mac users when the Palm devices will not work?
I've gotten no response from Palm. I also didn't drop $300 for a PDA that will not do what it's supposed to do.
And I did try Missing Sync. It's hit or miss. People in the Missing Sync forums are frustrated because the latest upgrade (6.0.2) doesn't always work either. It didn't work for me.
Solution: Sent the Palm TX back.
The only reason I didn't buy the iPhone is because I don't like having to sync using USB. I don't like wires. So, I guess I'll have to buy an iPhone and hope it works with Leopard.
I experienced the same problem with Bluetooth sync after Leopard update. Nothing I tried worked.
My MacBook appeared to "see" my Palm device, but would not allow a sync connection.
I just installed Missing Sync and it corrected the problem.
I was having problems with this as well after upgrading to Leopard 10.5.1
I went into the Advanced tab of the bluetooth device, once I was able to get iSync to recognize my Palm T3. I removed the second entry for th serial ports and left the Bluetooth-PDA-Sync entry. I changed the type to RS-232 and that seemed to do the trick!
iSync 3.0
HotSync Manager 3.1
