Using GarageBand to convert analog to digital

I recently switched from PC to Mac. With my PC, I was converting old analog music (LPs and cassette tapes) to digital, using an ADS converter that came with Nero software, which had LP and tape "wizards" to optimize the recording prior to burning to CD. ADS said I could use GarageBand to do the same thing on my Mac, but didn't say how. Can anyone help? Thank you.

you can use GB, but I prefer to use Audacity. it's free and really easy to break up tapes or album sides into individual songs. it's also the prefect compliment to GB; some of the effects are really cool (including the reverse feature which GB doesn't have - use it constantly). lot's of free plug ins as well. i really love the reverb for electronic soundscapes.
