I have the defender series (I have both the black and yellow/black). It's an awesome case. It's sturdy and best protects the phone (I've tried a slew of other cases).
I bought the original versions and the cases fell very short of the expectation. They felt cheap, the silicone jacket was loose and gapped and the case was very difficult to remove from the holster. After I called OB to complain, they offered to ship out replacement cases of the revised version. I didn't even have to ship back the original cases. Their customer service is awesome! Anyway, I got the revised versions and they are great. The hard shell is sturdier, the silicone jacket is a more rigid material and stays in place (plus it doesn't pick up as much lint as before) and finally it's no problem getting it out of the holster. You still can't use the silent switch on the phone through the case but that was never a big deal for me because I just turn the volume all the way down and I'm good to go.
The clear membrane doesn't inhibit the touch screen at all. You can sync/charge with the case on. I rarely take the phone out unless I'm switching to my other defender case. The phone stays nice and snug-doesn't move around in the case.

The case undoubtedly adds a little bulk, BUT, it doesn't bother me. I'd rather have a little added bulk with the peace of mind that my phone is very well protected and still functional through the case.

IMHO it's the best case out there for top notch protection.

Hope this helps.

I personally don't own the case or have not seen it in person.....but reading the description makes me think that dust and grime would not get in! For now I have that site bookmarked! I'm hoping they expand on the colors with more choices....I'm thinking something Pink for myself! 😉 They do have a Pink iPod Touch cover as well as other colors for the Touch.....so maybe they'll soon have more color options for the iPhone.

+Is it as thick as a blackberry with the case on cause i used to have an 8100 and it was pretty thick with the leather case, but did not bug me+

I can't really say, I've never owned a BB.

+Also with this case does lint, dust get in it, i don't really want my crome getting scratched up.+

Absolutely, no dust or lint get in there. Whenever I change cases, I check the phone and it's perfect. Everything pretty much is sealed against lint or dust-provided you have the silicone covers over the dock port and earphone jack. The membrane over the speaker and mic and the screen don't allow lint or the like in the case. Now keep in mind the Defender case is not completely waterproof. On the website it says the case protects the phone from light precipatation but not fully waterproof.

You can give it a try and since the Otter Box customer service is so good, if you aren't happy, they are real good about accepting returned items-no hassles.

Hope this helps.

Are you talking just the OtterBox defender cases or any case in general? Because if you are talking about OB's defender cases, the only thing I could think of is when the individuals experiencing those issues inserted the phone into the case maybe they weren't as careful to make sure the case and phone were completely wiped clean of anything. There isn't much chance of lint or dust getting in there once the case is snapped shut with the silicone jacket on.
A lot of cases out there leave the screen open and vulnerable to dust or lint collecting on the edges of the case. But OB's cases have the clear membrane that is actually attached to the case covering the screen, so if any dust or dirt collects on the case, it stays on the outside.
I've not had any issues-and I regularly switch between my black and yellow/black defender cases. Believe you me, I'm a stickler with keeping my phone clean and I'd definitely notice if there were any new scratches.

I got the Otterbox Defender Black on Black and couldn't be happier, it is easy the best made case I have ever seen, I don't even think it is that thick. Only thing I don't like about it is the silcon on the sides of the screen likes to come loose every once and a while, Does yours.

I bought mine of an Ebay Autorized Otterbox Reseller for $45 shipped excellent seller, his name is let me_sell_that_foryou link: http://myworld.ebay.com/letme_sell_that_foryou

He is a very fast shipper, ordered Thursday and got it Tuesday USPS

Hi, Luke. My cases are the revised versions of the defender case. It sounds like you have a first version because I had the original version and was unhappy for several reasons, one being the silicone jacket. It was very loose and was rather annoying.

The revised version has a sturdier grade of silicone and it doesn't move around like on the original case-plus it doesn't pick up as much lint.

But if you like the case you have then you would love the revised version that the website sells becasue they took care of most of the issues like the silicone jacket and the ease of getting it in and out of the holster.

You may want to consider asking the seller if you could return it due to the silicone jacket issue. THen just buy the current version from OB's website. It's only $5 more than what you paid for the eBay case.

Since I purchased two cases, I qualified for free shipping, not sure if with the cost of one case you'd qualify for free shipping. But you can always check first.

I think you'll be happier with the current version. To me the changes were a big difference.

Good Luck.

I also have various cases including the OB and it is by far the best case. I only have two issues with it: one) the ring volume is a little lower with the case but it is a trade off for the protection it gives. Two) the screen membrane leaves little "spots" on the screen, not sure why. I recommend this case 110 percent. I like it better than the iskin Revo.
