Hi, TMW3116, I know what you mean about the membrane. I'm curious...do you by chance have a crystal protective film on the phone itself? Before I got the OB case, I was using iSkin with the power crystal screen film. I figured I'd just leave it on when I began using the defender case but I found that the screen membrane on the OB case stuck to the iPhone screen because of the power crystal film I left on the phone. I took it off and I no longer have that issue.

tmw:

The "spots" are temporary and seem to be caused by tiny amounts of skin oil left on the glass before you put the Defender on. I carefully used rubbing alcohol and a q-tip to get my phone nearly spot free the last time I took the case off (which is almost never).

Other than that, love it and 2nd everything "Nettie" has said.

I wanted to bump this because I recently had dealings with Otterbox and I found that not only is the case great but there customer service was and is even better.

I have the Defender in both black and yellow. Get it, buy it, you won't regret it. Their customer service is outstanding. I would recomend them to everyone.

I just wanted to add that I have just spoken to otterbox about the issues with there cases and someone mentioned that you might get the first version of the case which had some problems. I double checked on a guy I had bought mine from since a lot of people say they are authorized distributors and the guy I asked about, they said in fact he was and if I bought one from him that I would surely be getting the revised version. The sellers name on ebay is theboxstore_more and his website is http://www.theboxstore.biz/ Just a note....if purchased on his ebay store he offers free shipping. He charges $5 on his site. Also, he sells these cases for $45 with best offer as an option. Offer him $40 and he will sell for $43. Save a few dollars with this option.

Considering the protection it offers the phone, I don't think it's too bulky. I use it with the holster and yes the holster adds bulk, but if you use the case alone and put it in your pocket, I don't think it would be too bulky and really the silicone jacket doesn't make it that difficult to put in or take out of your pocket.

I've dropped my phone a couple of times while in the case and I've never worried if the phone is damaged.

Personally, I am more interested in the best protection for my phone rather than having a pretty case. What good is the pretty case if it doesn't protect your phone??? You'll have a jacked up phone but still have a pretty case. OOOPS, Sorry, I'll get off my soap box. =0)

I don't think you'll be disappointed if you got one.

The good thing is if you ordered one and tried it for a bit and didn't like it, OB's customer service is awesome and you'd be able to return it no questions asked. I'd get it off the OB website instead of eBay just because you'll be ensured a revised version rather than chance it with eBay and get an original version.

Good Luck.

When otterbox shipped the first version of the defender case, it had problems with the rubber skin. It didn't stay in place, three weeks after, they came with an improved version that is fantastic, rugged, protects the phone nicely and has a great grip. I have several cases, incase, irevo, etc...and I love the defender case the best. The holster is very sturdy and secure, strong plastic. The only drawback on this case is that it covers the mute switch. Excellent case, worth buying. It's easy to put together, you could charge the phone in the case but take my iphone out and put it on the cradle.
