Hyperlink to Local Webpage

Is there a way in Keynote to link to a webpage that is stored locally? When I copy and paste the URL from Safari (used Open File in Safari to locate and open file) it will not take. It reverts to the web URL or goes to hyperlink to a slide.

Thoughts?

Hi Kirk,

If you paste the URL you are copying into this forum then maybe we can identify where its going wrong.

If its an iWeb page then its probably an index.html page which auto-diverts to the online version.

Also tried:
/Websites/website01/index.html

Keynote changes it to:
http://localhost/Websites/website01/index.html

which yields and error.

Actually it changed it to:

http:///Websites/website01/index.html then when I clicked on it it opened safari and in the address area it had:
http://localhost/Websites/website01/index.html

Keynote will not open local HTML files directly -- instead they must be served up with the local web server. You can enable the web server in the OS X Sharing Preference Panel, then put the files in the appropriate location and access them through the browser, or through Keynote. See Apple's help info for more on this topic.

Actually there shouldn't be any need. If its just HTML content just change the URL to file:///Websites/website01/index.html and you should see it.

You'd only need a full web server if you wanted to host it or use php, sql etc.
(Check out MAMP if that what your after)

HTML however, can just be opened in a web browser.

I think the problem is with your index.html file.

Post the contents here and ill tell you what it should be

The problem is that Keynote does not allow hyperlinking to local files, and hence the file:// URL does not work in hyperlinks. The only hyperlinks that Keynote allows are those from served webpages, hence the need to use the local webserver to serve the files.

My mistake. Tulse is quite correct.

Two options I can see...
1. Use a local web server as described above
OR
2. Make a webpage on the internet (google will host it for free with google pages) with the following contents...

<html>
<head>
<meta http-equiv="refresh" content="0;url=file:///Websites/website01/index.html">
</head>
<body>
Any wait text
</body>
</html>

Effectively this will go out and come back in.

The local web server might be best!
