Hybrid Mor

Hello-

I am sure someone knows the answer to this and I cannot find it. When trying to load in certain synths I get the dialogue box 'Logic Pro: Plug-in "Hybrid Mor" not available'. Who can tell me where I can find this elusive plug-in. The same synths worked in Logic Pro 7. Hmm??

MacBook Pro, Mac OS X (10.5)

Open /Library/Application Support/Garageband/

The "Instrument Library" folder should be left where it is. Inside it, you'll see:
- Plug-In Settings
- Sampler
- Track Settings

The Sampler directory is where the sample instrument content goes. Inside Sampler, you'll see:
- Sampler Files
- Sampler Instruments

Again, leave Sampler Instruments where they are - these are the instrument files and are relatively small. Sampler Files contains the sample content for the instruments.

Now, you can move all sample folders inside Sampler Files to a folder on an external drive except the "Hybrid Synthesizers" folder. It, and it's content, must stay here, otherwise some plugins in GB and Logic will break. It cannot be aliased.

If that Hybrid Synthesizers folder is not in that specific place, or the content is moved, then the "Hybrid *" plugins will not show up in Logic. As they are not showing up for you, there is a problem with that content. Reinstall it, or move it back if you've tried to mvoe it elsewhere.

Ok, just to let you know I worked through this with a friendly guy at Apple support. We ran through various potential fixes, but it seems the key issue is the following:

1. Reinstall Garageband
2. Carry out a full software update for Garageband

The issue seems to come up when files are not completely installed, or else the order by which Garageband and Logic are installed causes slight issues.

Either way, reinstalling Garageband, either by selecting the application individually, or else reinstalling all applications, and then running a software update, fixed this for me.

The Hybrid Morph synth isn't exactly an essential software instrument (the sounds aren't anything that can't be reproduced with the ES1 and ES2) but it does have some really nice analog-modeling presets. And it's just frustrating to get these "Plug-in not available" messages popping up when you're browsing through sounds in the library. I've been running Logic Pro 8 since it's release and noticed this problem immediately with both the Hybrid Morph and Hybrid Basic instruments. I couldn't find any solutions at the time, so I've just been ignoring the issue for the past year-and-a-half.
Thanks to this forum, I now have the Hybrid instruments up and running in Logic. It's a simple re-install of Garageband. If you're still running Tiger like I am, the iLife applications are found on the OS installation disk rather than a dedicated iLife disk.

Hybrid Morph is actually a derivative of the EXS24 - it's a sample player, and it's playing back samples, rather than synthesising them from scratch (hence why it doesn't work when the samples are not available, as you've found out.)

So in many respects it's very different from the ES1 and ES2, and can produce sounds that they can't...
