Display ripples while scrolling web pages

Hello,

While using the trackpad to scroll down a web page, my MBP gets ripples on the display. I looked at the activity Monitor while doing this and it never went passed 60% used. I have 2g of RAM with the 2.2ghz processor. Is this normal??

Thanks in adv.

I also have this problem! I am using fire fox at the moment and it isn't doing it anymore.I really like Safari but can't stand the ripples. It seems the only application it does it in is Safari.

I just want to add myself as I am experiencing with this with my new Mac Book Pro.

The text get rippled when being scrolled. And I also experience some flash player where the screen is "chopping with flashing effect".

By the way, I also used TIME MACHINE to transfer my old MAC BOOK to my new mac book pro.

Last week I experienced that the DASHBOARD came out intermittently. The old dashboard was in F12. Even if I didn't press F12 the dashboard came out. Eventually, the solution was to change the setting into F4. But this is still weird because I never press anything and the dashboard keeps on coming out.

N-thing the same issues. Torn/rippled graphics in web browsers and text apps. Flickering Finder windows when scrolling or resizing. Flickering Flash video.

It seem to set in after a small translucent grey rectangle appeared while working in Toonboom one day. Quitting the app fixed the problem but I started noticing these other issues afterwards.

Does anyone who has this problem also have a really jerky dock animation?

It seems suddenly that the performance of my macbook pro (early 2008) has suddenyl lost some of video processing power, causing websites to look choppy, but only slightly. More obvious is a really jerky dock animation, and also games on boot camp partiotion have suddnely started to freeze up.

Its nearly as though the frame rate is ok, more like the refresh rate has been reduced.

Does this also seem to be the nVidia problem?

I made and appointment at the Genius Bar today, I was able to replicate this problem I was having in all of its instances (Safari, iTunes Store, Finder, etc.). The girl at the Genius Bar booted from an external HDD, and was unable to replicate the problems in 10.4 and 10.5, however since she saw it before hand she's put me down for a logic board replacement. I'll have it back in ~ 5 days, so my fingers are crossed that this will fix my graphics issue.

If you can reliably replicate the issue, I suggest making an appointment at the Genius Bar at an Apple store and I’m sure they’ll do the same for you. She said this was a known issue with the NVIDIA 8600M graphics card.

I got some bad news -- this MAY not be a problem with the defective NVIDIA 8600 graphics card. I have had this problem for nearly a year, and had TWO motherboard replacements -- one as recently as two weeks ago.

The problem was NOT resolved. If anything, it is worse. According to the Genius at my store, he says this is a "known" bug in 10.5.6 -- it had been fixed in 10.5.5, but now regressed back to being broken in 10.5.6.

If it is the same bug, try this as a test: Using the free Apple Tool called "Quartz Debug" (available as part of the XCode download), run Quartz Debug and select TOOLS > Disable Quartz Extreme. Now, with Quartz Debug still running, try to see if the problem goes away.

Turning off Quartz Extreme will dramatically slow down several graphics operations, especially dragging compositing windows. However, you will be able to see if this is the problem.

This has been a MEGA pain for me -- and why Apple developers have taken nearly a year to correct it is hard to understand.

I have had this problem on my 17" MBP (last model before unibody) ever since I got it about 9 months ago. It comes and goes, but when it happens it makes the machine almost unusable. In my opinion, this is not acceptable for a $3000 laptop!

I see predominantly two symptoms: (1) Scrolling causes bad redraw problems; this happens in all applications, but mostly in safari, and mostly when scrolling with the trackpad; (2) Blocks of the screen flash white when redrawing; this can be triggered by just typing, and happens often with flash or video. I see other random problems too, such as file names disappearing from icons in the finder when you select one.

There is only one thing that I've found that stops the behavior: I have to be running on battery to have the problems; plugging in stops them. But when I can't plug in, there's no way to fix the problem that I've found.

Same problem, screen rippling while scrolling with the trackpad, and huge "white blocks" obscuring text while scrolling as well.

Hi all

I just bought a brand new 15.4" MBP (2.4g) today and am having similar problems.
When I scroll it almost lags and breaks up like a windows laptop would without the gfx card driver installed or when I scroll slowly it does like a wave ripple effect and distorts things

I'm not happy i've just spent £1320 on this! Has anyone worked out if its a hardware or software problem, i.e do i need to take it back or hold on till apple sort it?

I've tried reinstalling, and every browser and all do it to some degree.

Thanks and here's hoping!

Chris
