This should be as safe as your laptop. The connectivity between your iphone and the payment website should be secured through SSL. The connection medium continues to be the edge network or the wi-fi you are at.

My bank has a mobile website which I bookmarked though I haven't used it yet. I would think it would be about the same as doing it from a computer running Tiger or Leopard. Plus the banks have their own security. If doing banking of any sort I would use their mobile page as opposed to their regular one. Could be they have more/different security when accessed from a mobile device.

If you're not using your wireless carrier's network and instead using WIFI make sure it's a secure WIFI connection, not an open one otherwise someone may be recording your data packets for information. If you're using a WIFI connection keep in mind that WEP is more easily cracked than WPA or WPA2.

Not true. If you are accessing an SSL site (URL begins "HTTPS:") you can safely use an open wireless network, as you have end-to-end encryption from the phone to the site, so whether or not the WiFi network is encrypted is irrelevant.

Again, an unsecured wifi network has nothing to do with SSL encryption which any reputable bank will want to use.

I understand that but if I was on a unsecured wifi I would just be a little more careful where I sign into that's all I was implying. if he is on a safe wifi network there is just a lil less worry in regard. I thank you for your fast reply, you must be bored at work like me 🙂

That is interesting - I saw some other posts in similar questions related to security of information, and others seem to imply that it is not secure. Now I am confused on this issue.

If your bank uses 128 bit SSL encryption (just about all do) then the iPhone is as secure as your laptop. Likewise for credit card companies.

I would only worry if you have a hacked iphone or using an unsecured wifi. I use my iphone to pay my amx and check my bank balances without worry, I believe you will be fine.
