Classic slow - Trueblueenvironment?

Hi
I have Tiger 10.4.1 installed on my G4 Powermac. I use one CAD application in Classic. This worked fine in Panther. Since installing Tiger it has slowed right down and become jerky and unusable. I have scoured this forum for similar discussions. I have done an archive and install on Tiger and a restore OS9 from the Restore disc that came with the G4. No difference. I noted some comments about TrueBlueEnvironment and checked the Activity Monitor. Sure enough it is using anything between 85 - 100% of CPU! It says it has 45.93MB of real memory and a whopping 1.13GB yes GB of Virtual Memory. Is this the problem? If so what can I do about it.
Any suggestions welcome.

I have been having problems with my new mac mini for months. I have a slower computer and bought the mini to be able to create my jobs quicker. I have been trying to fiqure out for months what was wrong. Last night I came upon your discussion. I am having problems running Adobe Pagemaker 7.0 on my new computer. The operating system I have on it is OSX 10.4.7. When I worked on a computer with Panther Pagemaker flew. I am now back to working on the old computer I have. I don't understand how they can sell a operating system that works worse than the previous version. What are my options? Does anyone know if you are able to make the computer the older (Panther) operating system? If so how do you do it? Or is their a upgrade to pagemaker that works in OSX. Money is a major issue, that's why I bought the mini mac. As it stands now I have just thrown away money and I have a computer that is totally useless to me. Who at apple can we contact to get these problems resolved?

Have you tried executing the renice commmand from the terminal as suggested in this forum? Some have reported that helps.

If you have the Panther OS disks, you could install the Panther OS on your mini.

Or is their
a upgrade to pagemaker that works in OSX.

Adobe recommends PageMaker users upgrade to their InDesign product. Upgrades for licensed users of PageMaker are $349 for the Mac.

If you bought the mini at an Apple Store, you could complain to them. You also get 90 days tech support from Apple with new hardware purchases. Call them and complain. You could also fill out the feedback form for OS X
http://www.apple.com/macosx/feedback/
And lastly, you can file a bug report at bugreporter.apple.com (you need to register with ADC, which is free.)

The reality is, I don't think Apple gives a **** about Classic users anymore (and haven't since 10.2 was released). Their energy has consistently been spent working on the securing OS X as a solid platform, not spending it on users of their older OS. I am a sufferer of this problem too, so I sympathize. With the transition to Intel complete, I can guarantee they won't spend one dime on supporting an OS that can't even run on their current (and future) product lineup.

If the renice command doesn't work, and you do not wish to or cannot install Panther (you can get it for less than $50 from http://eshop.macsales.com/) then your next best option is to return the mac mini for a full refund since it didn't meet your needs and use that money to buy the OS X native version of Adobe's Indesign and install it on your current Panther based Mac (assuming you have one from your post).

Sorry the news isn't more cheery 😟
