This looks like you are not getting any feedback from the SIP server.

iChat sends the visible part of the Invite on port 5678 on the UDP Protocol
It then moves in iChat 4 to port 16402 and contacts the SIP server called SNATMAP run by Apple for connecting iChat calls.

If your computer and/or LAN were allowing this part you would have a longer log with the details of the ports it was trying and the response (If any were received) from your Buddy.

You are going to have to tell us how your are connected to the Internet and what devices are involved and what you have done to set them up to see if we can spot what is going on to stop this working

Hi all,

Have been scoring through these discussions all night, after successfully setting up iChat for the first time last week and it working fine. Then tonight it would not conect and its driving me insane.

I am connected to the internet via a wireless network to a Netgear Router. as I said worked fine on the same connection last week. Trying to chat with my home computer which connects to a bt broadband connection. Have tried the changing ports to 443, tried the firewall setting and internet sharing but alas no joy. The error log is as follow......

What have you done to set the Netgear up for iChat ?

Hi,

Unfortunately the router is on a public network in my accomadation so I can't access any of the settings. The bit that puzzles me is that it work perfectly last thursday!!? Could it be to do with DCHP or dynamic IP addresses etc.

The only change to my system since last thursday is that I've installed Skype to speak with friends and family who arn't lucky enough to have a Mac.

Who does have access to change the settings ?

It should be doing UPnP as this would allow any port to be opened by the apps people have (They close after a timed period)

iChat has trouble with the DOS or SPI setting on the WAN page as this sees the amount of iChat data as an Attack.
It can not be made more tolerant through adjustment, it has to be turned Off

Yours may say SPI where mine says DOS.

The difference can be the internet speed of the Buddy you were talking to as it is a threshold hold thing.
Faster Buddies sending more data are more likely to bump into it.

I would ask if they would turn it off.

I will endeavour to get into the Router and turn off the UPnP.

Just to confirm it was the same buddie I was talking to last week that i've started getting this problem with, we changed her streaming setting in Quicktime on sunday to 1.5 (etc.) so I got her to change it back just now thinking it might revert to the success of last weeks IChat...... alas no joy!

Opps,

UPnP should be ON. It is the default sate and will allow Multiple users

It is the DOS or SPI setting that needs to be Off

The "Speed" Of a Buddy may be an issue.
It may pay them to use the one in iChat > Preferences > Video section > Bandwidth Limit as this one will effect the chat as it happens.

Start real low at 200kbps and slowly move up the range.

Have the Connection Doctor open (From the Video menu) to see if you can spot when it dies

Not sure if you solved your problem yet but I had the same issues. Read many posts on many forums. I have 10.5.1 and have success with a buddy using 10.4. I have a Linksys router with voip. I had to enable UPnP on my router and my buddy has a Netgear with his UPnP enabled. All is well and works great. No more communication error. No other port changes or forwarding, all default settings in security, firewall and IChat.
