Compatibillity - iMac and Altec Lansing ADA885 THX

On January 6, 2008 I purchased a new 20" iMac. I have an Altec Lansing ADA885 THX Certified Dolby Digital speakers with subwoofer (circa 2001) from my previous Dell.

Is this Altec Lansing speaker system compatible with my soon-to-be delivered iMac?

iMac, Mac OS X (10.5.1)

For future reference, "Monster Cable" products are pure snake oil. Claims
like: +"High velocity of propagation for greater clarity and dynamic range."+
are guaranteed to evoke hysterical laughter from electrical engineers.

For good cables, at very good prices try: http://monoprice.com

even with a different cable, i can not get any sound... it's as if the s/pdif connection doesn't work or something. speakers otherwise test as working properly and i can get sound if i just use the 'front input' connection. no surround, however. i bought the speakers originally with my micron computer (soundblaster card?). didn't need to use the s/pdif. wonder if it was never 'activated'.
thanks for you help, Looby.
