Mac OS X DICT Files

So Tiger come with the Oxford English dictionary. That's great!!!

But I live in Brazil and would like to export my own language dictionary (Like Aurelio) for OS X. As far as I know the main dictionary file is based on the DTD specifications by gentoo.
It's a XML standard to create dictionaries.

http://oup.dataformat.com/doc/OUPDTDDictionary.html

Inside the .dict package theres the XML, a reference file with all the words and the traditional info.plist and other descriptions files. Also there's the image folder with all the photographs that the dict contains.

I wish to know if there's a especialized program to create those dictionaries or if there's already a dictionary available to download.
Nothing found on google....

Hey- I wish I could help you out, but I don't know how to work these xml files in particular... I did feel the need to post though because I have been dying to figure out how to piece together the databases so that I can customize the searches I do to help me study for an exam next month... anyway I can't do it. I've tried excel, and Filemaker and a few word processors but it's been quite tricky. and unsuccessful. So now that I've seen that last response to your post, I am getting the feeling that the dictionary tool is not another developer example I am allowed to rip open and have my way with... am I breaking a rule?

there is one thing I saw that I think can help you, http://www.arizona-software.ch/applications/provoc/en/
is a site that has a couple localization tools, and although it doesn't have Portuguese (and I don't even know if that is what need)- thier provoc app lets you create your own dictionary, i believe, and there is a few other languages that they support for thier "ilocalize" app... also, I have a few language dictionaries from here- www.apimac.com -but again, not portuguese (spanish, italian, german are what I have, but they may very well have what you're looking for)

Rachel -- It's not clear to me what you are trying to change in the OS X dictionary file, but you might be interested in this example of modifying it:

The original poster is looking for a monolingual Portuguese dictionary that he can substitute, or transform so that it can substitute for the monolingual English dictionary in Dictionary.app.

If I could figure out how to type out the correct translation of giddy squeals of delight such as the ones I made just a few moments ago after clicking your link- I would share them with you as thanks, but I can't. Between all the info now that I've collected I think I can start wrapping my head around the concept of working with databases... and that link with an example perl script was exactly what I needed to help me get started.
thanks, you've helped me immensely- I wish I knew of a Portuguese dictionary so that I could be as helpful here...
