iSync 2.0 and Handspring Visor

As nearly as I can determine my move to Tiger has made it impossiblel for me to synchronize my Handspring Visor. I hope that I'm wrong! Has anyone a solution? I've used the Handspring USB cradle without a problem for several years.

I don't believe that Palm supports the synchronization of Visor handhelds under OS X using any version of the Palm Desktop. There is no explicit support for Visors or early Treo models in version 4.2.1 - as I recall, they were last explicity supported under Palm Desktop version 4.0, which is still available for download from Palm, and works under Mac OS X.

The key to resolving this may require the removal of Palm Desktop 4.2.1 and the reinstallation of version 4.0, but the Palm site seems silent on the issue. If I understand your closing statement though, the presently installed Palm Desktop 4.2.1 will synchronize with your Visor, but iSync cannot even see the device. Is that correct?

I'm starting to think this is not going to be possible as well. I spent a lot of time on the Palm website and found no information. I will go back and see about getting Desktop 4.0 and replacing 4.2.1 with it.

Your summary is correct. Desktop 4.2.1 is syncing and iSync does not see the device.

The question is whether Apple will support the Visor and early Treos with iSync. It was working fine prior to Tiger.

I had trouble but now my Visor is syncing with Palmdesktop, but not Isync so Ical and address book are out. I hate having double stuff. Really like the color coded ical set up, address book and mail integration.

I hate being left out by upgrades but guess it is inevitable.

If I could uninstall Isync 2. and go back to 1.5 I think it could work. I down loaded 1.5 and ran the installer, but it didn't make a difference.

The only way I got anything to sync was by getting Palm 4. revB from this thread
John W Cochran, "Can't Enable Palm OS Synching" #17, 12:09am Aug 3, 2005 CDT

So if some one would tell me how to remove or down grade Isync I would be thankful.

You can remove iSync 2 or 2.1 and install iSync 1.5 and the iSync Palm Conduit
i but only
if you revert to Mac OS X 10.3.9 or earlier. iSync 1.5 will not work under Mac OS X 10.4 or later.
i Do not attempt to install it
if your are currently running a release of the Tiger OS.

So, unless you are will to step down from Tiger [which is actually more difficult than it sounds for most users] then you're stuck looking at other options, including upgrading from your Visor to a more contemporary Palm device.

I had the same experience that you did and was very disapointed.
But I refused to believe thatt Tiger would be a step backward. So I did some more digging. and found this thread

Scott Brumage, "10.4.2 vs. Palm Desktop 4.2.1 via iSync 2.1, FIXED!", 09:52am Aug 1, 2005 CDT

I tried to change the permissions on the folder suggested, but they wouldn't take. Then I restarted the computer and then everything worked!

Unfortunately I can't offer any details as to WHY it worked. But I will say, I redownloaded & installed the latest Palm desktop. Then I synced with that once. Then I tried this permission thing. FInally I restarted.

HELP ---PLEASE---
Okay, not thinking I would be spending hours trying to get my stupid visor to sync with Tiger...

My issue is I can't get my visor to upgrade to version 3.5.3. I'm still running 3.1 which still works on my non tiger computer at work.

I tried to upgraded to plam desktop 4.2.1, but when I put in my type of handheld i got 4.0 software....So I lied said I had a different hand held, and got the software.

I tried to sync from the cradle again, and it installed 3.5.3, and it looked like it might work, but of course didn't. I get the same dreaded message. " This installer is not compatible with your device. Please contact the manufacturer for a compatible installer." I went to handspring, now palm's web site, no real info...

I opened palm 4.2.1 and went to hotsync/conduit settings/
I got an unexpected error, (1852402768)

So I can no longer sync with my isysc and I can't get it to work with plam desktop software to work, neither 4.0 or 4.2.x it just wants to update my handheld which won't update.

HELP ---PLEASE---

Hi Nick,
sorry, I just saw your message. I have not tried the missing sync, but I'll check it out. Did you try it? did it work? I was thinking of scrapping the visor and just getting an ipod. I can at least have my calendar and contact, but of course I can't add them with a stylus...
Gotta love technology.

It doens't look like it will work. It's listed under Not Supported.

I logged onto their discussions page...and quickly got frustrated.

I'll try adjusting my settings like someone else suggested, if not...I guess I'll be getting an ipod.

Let me know if you found a solution....
thanks
