Motorola V710

So iSync support says this only works with USB cable for syncing... can I use the USB cable accessory to transfer OTHER files (i.e, mp3s for ringtones) to the phone?

Thanks!

When I open MetaClasses.plist it doesn't not look anything like the post shows. It's a column of phones which you have to find V710 then click the arrow which makes "services","identification", and "inheritsfrom" then if you click inheritsfrom it shows the com.motorola.usb.0x22B8/0x2A22 but you once you change that it won't let you save it as a .plist file you have to save it as an .oooutline file which doesn't work. What is going on? How do I make this work? If anyone can help that would be great I just don't understand how people are changing the com.motorola.V710 script. I don't even know where that is. Someone please help. Thanks.

This is a pretty detailed explanation of how to do it: The V710 is listed way down in the list, you have to keep a sharp eye out to see it:

Make sure your phone has the latest firmware (go to the menu, select Phone Info, select Other Information, select S/W Version). Synchronization was added in version 8700_01.40.0R. If you don't have the latest firmware, go to a Verizon store and have them upgrade it.

Change the existing V710 entry in /Applications: iSync.app: Contents: PlugIns: ApplePhoneConduit.syncdevice: Contents: PlugIns: PhoneModelsSync.phoneplugin: Contents: Resources: MetaClasses.plist to use the USB-BT driver. When you're done, the entry should look like this:
<key>com.motorola.V710</key>
<dict>
<key>Identification</key>
<dict>
<key>com.apple.gmi+gmm</key>
<string>Motorola CE, Copyright 2000+Motorola CDMA v710 Phone</string>
</dict>
<key>InheritsFrom</key>
<array>
<string>com.motorola.usb-bt.0x22B8/0x 4902</string>
</array>
<key>Services</key>
<array>
<dict>
<key>ServiceName</key>
<string>com.apple.model</string>
<key>ServiceProperties</key>
<dict>
<key>ModelName</key>
<string>V710</string>
<key>PhoneIcon</key>
<string>MOTV710.tiff</string>
</dict>
</dict>
</array>
</dict>
The bolded numbers is the only thing you replace.
Make sure to remove the V710 device from iSync if you had previously synchronized with a USB cable.

If you had previously tried to pair the V710 via Bluetooth, delete the device from the list of Bluetooth devices. Set your phone to be discoverable and then use the Bluetooth preferences to add the device again. This time the synchronization option should be checked instead of ghosted.

If the V710 doesn't automatically get added to iSync, go to the "Devices" menu and "Add Device...". Once added Bluetooth synchronization of Contacts and Calendars will work.

Someone please answer our question!!! After we go all through Applications-iSync-PlugIns-.....MetaClasses.plist, we change "usb" to "usb-bt" and change the "2A22" to "4902", what do you do from there?? Do you simply leave that up and go throught the whole pairing process again, because otherwise we are unclear as to how we are supposed to save it, because we can't save it as a .plist file, let alone in the same folder that the MetaClasses.plist file is in. All we need to know is where and how to save the file. MGW, Barry Schwartz, it seems as if you've figured this entire process out, it would be greatly appreciated if you could guide us through the finish as well.

Thanks

I figured it out!!!! The trick that was never explicitly stated in this forum, but that I found on another forum was that you simply right click on the MetaClasses.plist file (instead of double clicking on it to open) and then open it up in Microsoft Word. That's why they were all showing it with the // and all of that. So after you edit it in word, you save it (it will automatically save as "MetaClasses copy.plist". You then move the original "MetaClasses.plist" file to another folder for safe-keeping. Rename the copied file as the original in the iSync-.... folder. Then just to be safe, I turned my v710 on and off and restarted my computer, then went through the pairing in bluetooth and it finally allowed the checkmark on the iSync sychronization, then iSync opened and voila!! The contacts will all synchronize (you can select only those w/ phone numbers or just a group) and the calendars will too (you can change how many weeks in advance to schedule and also which calendars)!!

I have done everything that everyone else has done, and iSync will see my V710 via Bluetooth, but when I hit the sync button, it begins the sync then quickly fails to sync - it says that the connection was lost. This happens even when I place the phone right beside the bluetooth adapter (or when I use a USB cable). However, when I used OnSync, I was able to choose which contacts I wanted synced, and then sync them successfully (with a USB cable - haven't yet tried via bluetooth). I am on the Telus Mobility network in Canada with Telus firmware, if that makes a difference. I only had my phone for about 1 month now. Please help!!

Hi David,

I tried doing the calendar alone, and sure enough, it works, but, it still fails when I try to sync the contacts. There is a new firmware out for Telus, but I believe it's just for the new TV content on the phone. I'm going to try it this week sometime at the Telus dealer in the mall. Too bad it can't be done at Future Shop because that's where I work! 😟 I'll let you know how it goes after the update.

Carl.

Just for the record - You all are talking about syncing your v710 with isync 2.1 for tiger?

I'm still running 10.3.9 and want to get my v710 synced with my address book but according to the support guys I'm SOL.

I'm an editor and not really interested in upgrading my OS while I have any projects working. (bad experiences in the past)

any ideas would be welcome.

Thanks
